humm, monoprice really branching out from its roots

Similar experience with multiple other brands. Very cheap/thin plastic usually, doesn't hold up well. Just taking it apart and putting it together multiple times strains the connectors enough to crack. Add any real force or children being rough with it and it's done.
Probably could DIY one out of PVC that would be much stronger, but given: even the materials to do so would cost more than this

I have one (may not be this exact one since I don't have the original packaging), but I concur. After maybe 3 or 4 uses, the PVC connectors are breaking as well as the PVC structure and cross pieces.

If it's anything like the one I have, good luck getting more than a couple of uses out of it.
