I have used these for a while. I can grow 146 tomato plants at one time (2 bounty, 2 harvest) and they'll be ready to plant in 2 weeks.

I use this in the early season to get plants ready to transfer to my greenhouse.

According to the description, you get plastic tray, sponges, and 3 oz of liquid fertilizer. If you didn't get those, you were ripped off and should have returned it. Everyone else ordering this should expect to get them as part of the kit just fine.

Aero garden is awful. I've tried with mine over and over. Using distilled water etc. It ALWAYS grows mold on the pods and algae in the water. It is unsightly to have on my counter. Most of my seeds didn't sprout. I have much better luck using regular planter cups with seed starter. Just my 2 cents

Hmm - not sure what you are doing wrong, but I have been using it for years and has never done that. So, easy to grow plants in. No brainer.

I have a Harvest 360, older round model so doesn't fit this rectangular shape. Unfortunately the seed starting system for my model is still $30+ on Amazon.

However, I saw that all Aerogarden seed starting systems are 50% off on their site right now, so for mine was $14. Unfortunately $6 standard shipping, no free shipping unless over $50. But still best price can expect, so I ordered it there.

They also have the 50-packs of replacement grow sponges for 50% off on their site too, better than Amazon. But it doesn't let me add it to the cart, so probably sold out.

It depends on the plant, many planes you can divide the root system and clone the plant.

Yea, like I said I used a bounty elite. This would would allow for 24 starts and then 48 to plant if they're spliced

Do you have a list of plants or vegetables that you can divide the roots and clone the plant? Seeds are cheap, it's the replacement sponges that are expensive, so anything that will double the number of starter plants....

Here in California, electricity is expensive and sunlight is abundant, so I want to re-purpose my Aerogarden for starting seeds for my outdoor vegetable garden, rather than buying $3-5 starter plants every spring....

You can get off brand sponges on Amazon. We have done Cali and oriental poppies. Also works well for yarrow, columbine and blanket flower. Milkweed works too but not all will germinate. All of these can be split. Yarrow and blanket flower are the most forgiving. Cut with a clean, sharp exacto knife or scalpel.

Cool, thanks for the info. I did see that Amazon has off-brand sponges, though most are not cheaper than the $9.99 sale price for 50 on the Aerogarden site. However, they're not much different in price either.

In fact, the reviews on the Aerogarden site suggest the official sponges had some bad batches, with poor follow-up service from Aerogarden - so off-brand sponges may in fact be a better option. Any particular ones from Amazon you've had good experiences with?
