For anyone wondering what would someone use a router like this for - silo a network to limit being compromised.

These things are great for smart home networks.

wish it had gig wired, it would be worth getting just as a switch despite the low wifi speed, but as a 10/100 wired, just junk IMO.

Do this mean, use this as it's own guest network AP to isolate the IOT devices from primary network/devices?

I wouldn't specify guest per se, but yes, a secondary or third or fourth network silo'd from the rest.

You sure you are referencing the right model? Doesn't seem to have official support for OpenWRT when I lookup WL-WN529R2P. This model is not listed on the table of hardware page at OpenWRT. Can anyone help clarify please? https://openwrt.org/toh/start

Are these LAN ports work only if you connect the extender to internet via lan cable?
I need WiFi extender which input Internet signal vi WiFi but output via LAN ports to connect my old TV which has only LAN port.

No this is not better in any way than your Asus. Stick with the Asus! But do look into updating the firmware if you have not done so since purchasing the Asus.

Thanks OP! I like this cheap little device, and thinking about getting a second one, even tho the 15% off coupon is expired.

I used it as an access point, or wifi extender, in my shed where I have some exercise equipment and a Roku TV. The Roku TV is about 125+ feet and thru 3 walls from my main wifi router (ASUS RT-AC68U) in my house. The shed Roku will connect directly to the ASUS router, but throughput is very sketchy. Before putting the Wavlink in place I tested throughput with the Netflix channel network checker and got 0.6 Mbps. I then connected Roku thru this Wavlink device (which I had already setup as an access point using wireless 'Wisp' mode) and I got 6.1 Mbps. Next day when I did some exercize out there Roku still connected and got 9.0 Mbps. Similar for tablets and phones, some of which won't even connect directly to the main router.

Time will tell what the long term reliability of this Wavlink device is. One of the main problems I've had with similar devices is that they would sometimes 'forget' their configuration and I'd have to reconfigure them periodically. If this one stays working with no more maintenance than an occasional reboot I'll be thrilled.

Anyone know how many simultaneous devices one of these supports? I spent some time searching around and can't find any info.

It is garbage. Cut the speed significantly. Needed one instead of one of routers which lose connection from time to time. 80-90 mbps on old router stable - 5-25 mbps on this one - it is on dynamic ip. not worth it
