I have the Arete ASL 2 and I love it. Roomy design and pretty light for an all-season. Only thing is it suffers from the same sagging issue as all nylon tents due to their water absorption, but it's manageable. Still a great deal for a tent you can use even in the winter (aside from very extreme conditions).

What temps? You pay a lot more for lightweight very compressed bags than you do bigger and heavier bags. So budget and needs are important.

I'm guessing the halfdome that's on sale is probably too small for two adults and a 50lb dog eh? that's the only REI one that's on sale :/ The 3 man doesn't seem to be

why is the women's 1 pound heavier? do they really need it be warmer? one website says women tend to cooler than men, but if that's the case why is their sleeping bag warmer and heavier?

thinking of just getting two men's

Dimensions are about 7.5 feet long by 4.5 feet wide by 3.5 feet tall. That's a decent size for a backpacking tent. For car camping it's a bit small but it's workable. It depends on the adults and dog in question.

Because when you are typically colder you want something warmer i guess. Now i am curious though because an extra lb is a lot, maybe warmer

Women sleep cooler so they need more down to get the same temp rating as a man.
