The good old days of any of those brands replacing parts "easily and cheaply" are quite gone. MSR and Big Agnes were the most recent disappointments that I experienced. MSR wanted quite a bit for a replacement fly for their own problem, I might as well have just bought a whole new tent. Alps Mountaineering was much more reasonable, but they didn't have a big parts bin, just something that kind of fits.

Had the same experience with Thule last year. They didn't have a simple easily lost piece, just want you to buy a new $200 bike rack.

REI isn't what it used to be, neither are any of the brands they sell. Just buy something on sale and assume it's going to need replaced because brand loyalty is for suckers post COVID.
It says the footprint is included.

Seems like a good deal—in for one. I had a Half Dome years ago that was pretty bomber for a three seaso tent until I lost it in a move. My wife is set on getting a three person ultralight tent but this will make a good beater tent for shorter trips that are harder on gear.

Great reviews on this tent. It's suppose to be up there with the big agnes tents for 4-5 hundred. Also Rei has a great warranty on Rei brand stuff. I grabbed one for backpacking and hunting.

FYI, the footprint is also available for twenty bucks for members. Yes, you can use a cheap tarp instead but the dedicated footprint is a nice thing to have, especially when it's not stupid expensive like they can be.

Shows you how observant I am. Often you have to buy the footprint separately. Oh well.

I looked at this last night but eventually bought the passage 2 Which was under $100 after the member coupon. https://www.rei.com/rei-garage/pr...-footprint Now I am having second thoughts. Any thoughts on the comparison of the two? Passage 2 is about a pound heavier.

It depends, splitting a pound (if you're hiking as a pair) isn't too bad. Carrying an extra pound yourself can make a big difference depending on the length of your trip. I carried a roughly 4-pound and some change tent on a two week trip in the Alps. I wished I brought something lighter.

Would not recommend any REI tents. They don't actually manufacture them, but are made by a third party. That means that they don't have spare parts if something breaks. They will refer you to a another company which charges quite a bit for random plastic pieces whereas other manufacturers like Big Agnes, Exped, etc. have a large parts bin from which they can replace broken pieces easily and cheaply. Plus the 1 year warranty is not what it used to be.

I like sl tent better because of the walls being further spread out. Look at the difference for pole structure. More vertical side walls.
