Its possible to use international eSIM services like Airalo, which I've found to be inexpensive and reliable for international travel.
Depending on your needs, you can use Airalo in the 2nd eSIM slot of your iPhone. Then If you set your iPhone to only use data from that 2nd eSIM, you can get incoming calls on your primary US number, using the data stream from the 2nd eSIM for the call.
This setup will actually be WiFi calling, not airtime calling. On some US phone plans, this won't trigger international call charges.
Again, I don't know your exact situation, but there could be some possibilities for you with this route. Anyhow, I hope this helps someone out there who only has a dual eSIM phone…
Again, just trying to help…
EDIT:
If you want to know exactly how to do this, let me know and I'll post it a bit later once I'm at my computer where I have that exact "how to" info saved…
2 - Turn OFF data roaming on SIM1
3 - Set SIM1 as your primary voice
4 - Set SIM2 as your primary data source
5 - Disable the cellular switching
Whenever not on wifi, this setup will piggy back off SIM2 cellular connection as WiFi calling. This also works on iPhone 13 Pro Max using physical / eSIMs
Apple Support mentions DUAL SIM usage here:

Scroll down to "Learn about Dual SIM status icons"
I hope this help!
