Once a year, the CO-OP kids 20' 6 Speed bike is on sell again, not as good as the 40% off observed from previous year but 30% makes it a very nice deal if you are in market.

This is a great starter bike.

We bought this last year with the 40% off, but sure, 30% off is still great as this is cheaper than Giant STP 20 or Specialized Riprock 20 etc (although the Riprock is "amazing" as far as "kid's bikes" go, the kit is superior in many ways to what you get for >$1K in a "Adult" Specialized MTB, $650+ is steep for most parents for a bike that might last 2 or 3 years tops).

It is really easy to upgrade a couple of basic parts too: my kiddo could not get used to the twist-grip shifter and I did not find a shimano 6-speed, so I upgraded his to a 7-speed cassette SHIMANO MF-TZ500 "Tourney" 14-34T) and a SHIMANO Altus Right Shift Lever 7-Speed SL-M315-7R and it worked a charm: got under 1:1 gearing, rear RD can work with the combination just fine, and so did the OE chain and OE cable housing.

Also got my kiddo on MT200 brakes, not because the OE are not powerful per se (they are 50lbs with dual disc brakes, com on), but now that we have our shifting down, I am trying to get him to learn 1-finger braking, and he is not strong enough to deform the rotor to do that reliably (that is how single-piston mech brakes work, and dual piston mech or hydro-mech brakes are much more expensive than a pair of MT200).

He is tackling green singletracks with this just fine.

Rei has multiple members only offers, like this. It is not a bad deal if you are of the outdoorsy persuasion.

It's a lifetime membership and you get cash back and coupons so basically pays for itself. Only worth it if you shop at REI so if you don't, I understand the hesitance
