I'll +1 on the horse stall mats from TSC. However, a couple things to be aware of:
1. They stink and have a really strong tire smell. That'll last for a week or two. Any time you move them, you'll stir up the smell again. But once they're stagnant for a week or two, they're fine.
2. They very stiff. You're not going to roll them up and put them in your trunk. If you don't have some way to transport them while they're laying flat, then you probably should get a buddy with a pickup truck to help you. Technically, yes you can roll them up and put them in the back of an SUV. I did that. I was also spent an hour rubbing off the black rubber that was all over the back of the SUV after I took it out.
3. They're really heavy duty. These foam mats are almost like marshmallows in comparison.
4. They're pretty hard. They're not soft and cushiony like these foam mats. The foam mats are really quite comfortable to walk on barefoot. Those rubber mats are almost as hard as a hardwood floor on your feet, but are good for heavy duty equipment (like a treadmill, weights, etc.)
5. The horse stall mats aren't exactly cheap for the square footage. But they're night-and-day different from the foam mats.

I got a few boxes from Amazon end of 22 they were on sale for $38ish a box now they are $120Ish a box. I did my basement with them, they dent really easily. If you even put a regular chair on them even without the body weight of sitting in it it will put dimples in the floor.

I have these, I use them for my home gym. They're cushiony and foamy. Not that great for doing squats on since they're soft and very slippery.

I think if you look at the specs on size (12 x 24 x 1) and 36 pieces (2 square feet per piece) there's something lost in translation. 36 x 3 doesn't amount to 144 square feet

They had the 1" thick by 24' square (6pcs) at $15.79 in October on amazon. Haven't seen a deal similar to that since (on the 1" thickness option). Hopefully this sale is a sign that they are getting their inventory back up for hopefully another similar deal soon. They've been wanting $35-50 for the same equivalent for most of the past 4-5 months.

Would you say they are the same as the colored squares used at pre schools and play areas etc

If you're considering using these for gym floor, please reconsider horsestall mats. I regret spending hundreds of dollars buying multiple sets of these for my gym.

Any suggestions on the best deal for Horse Stall Mats, or what price point to look for?
