Glencairns tulip shape tends to concentrate the ethanol rather than smelling the variations from the whiskey. Just my 2 cents. Even a rocks glass would allow for a better tasting experience (nose,pallet,finish) and most bartenders I speak with agree.

To the comment on nosing, maybe there's a small benefit to the Norlan, but a proper nosing also includes drawing in air from the mouth as well, so there shouldn't be an issue with the glencairn unless you're doing it wrong.
