The concern is with pests that hitch a ride on the plants across state lines. California has significant agricultural exports: Grapes — $5.23 billion, Almonds — $5.03 billion, so laws don't allow shipping plants in from out of state.

You know it's funny, people really don't realize how those laws in California have changed products all over the country to be made of safer materials. A lot of manufacturers don't want to put those labels on their products in California, so they reformulate so they don't have to. This actually improves the quality across the country of those products.

Anyway I get the joke. But I really do wonder if people appreciate the reality.

Yes they are toxic to pets, but my animals don't really chew on the leaves. Now I have it outside in my patio because it really need some "bright indirect light" and it was not doing well in the living room...But I got my FLF from Costa Farms on amazon last year in July, it was like 30" tall. Now it is 6ft. I didn't really chip off the leaves on the bottom because I know if I don't like the look they will never grow back. lol.

Why would you "chip" off the leaves?

Removing the bottom leaves makes the base cleaner so you can see the stem/trunk. Gives it a more "tree-like" appearance.

My 2 dogs and 4 cats don't even look at my 3 fiddle leafs, but the cats are all over anything with spindly leaves like a spider plant or a pony tail palm. That said, I think I need another fiddle leaf fig.

I haven't had a Costa Farms plant die yet, having purchased them at Trader Joe's, the now defunct A&P, and Stop & Shop. They've grown well.

I'm fairly certain this plant is toxic for dogs & cats and is probably not a great fit for pet owners.
True. Granted, this happens to be true for the vast majority of commonly kept house plants.

It's crazy how much smarter California is to be able to dictate rules the rest of the US has to adhere to

That's an odd take from my comment, bud. It's not at all about dictating. It's about California regulating its market, and businesses making a decision on how to respond to that regulation. Because California is the largest market for most goods in this country, many manufacturers decide to simply adhere to those rules for the products they sell nationwide. I feel like I'm just repeating myself at this point.
