It's not that simple. You're right that the 980 Pro has better performance and in some synthetic tests it's going to look way faster, but for most practical applications users won't notice much of a difference.

If the most storage intensive thing you do with your computer is boot to Windows or play games, then you can go cheap on your SSD. If copying 50+ GB files is something that you do regularly, then you probably want to spend more on storage performance and write endurance.

M.2 sata is now a niche product, vast majority of M.2 is now NVMe. It's hard to find stock of the 860 EVO, let alone a sale.

This is the answer I needed to see...been eyeing sn850x because as we all know if you don't get the fancy new stuff you're buying the wrong thing. All I do is boot windows and play some games. So I guess I don't need to spend double than this to get the same thing done. I'm going from reg sdd drive now anyway so I'm sure it'll be a blazing upgrade anyway. Cheers.

Macrium is far better for HD resources than OEM cloning software. And its free (for personal use) across any drive or configuration. Also good tool for back-ups.

The 2TB has also been $129 for at least two weeks. This is one of the only models my local bestbuy keeps in stock for immediate pickup. Crucial P3 Plus is cheaper though if you can wait.

DRAM doesn't matter as the faster performance of the Gen-4 PCIe standard out runs the 970evo gen-3 with DRAM. The bottleneck becomes the limit of the system and not the component.

It helps to understand what your talking about before misleading people about a features that don't matter.
