On a personal note, I was only 15 minutes south of the crash site, just over the MS/LA border when a rescue squad acquaintance with us received the call for a "plane crash" and he quickly departed, en route to the location.
How little did we know that it would turn out to be Lynyrd Skynyrd band's plane and we didn't discover that until he returned late that evening and told us.
We were all in shock.
