Legion 5i pro > Acer Predator Helios 300 >>>>>> this Alienware
- footprint
- included screen and keyboard.
it also doe snto help when high end GPU cost 1k+ basically the price of a full gaming laptop
you can always build a better / more powerful gaming PC than a laptop at a given price but. not by that much any longer. CPU's are now a wash, the gap between desktop and laptop gpu is reducing.
Portability, ok sure that is implied, but to the original message, you can theoretically transport a desktop. But, the value/$ delta is still significant.
Footprint... I suppose if you're in a dorm room. But a SFF case with even a 21" monitor isn't that huge.

2. transport a desktop, screen, keyboard, cables is quite a hassle but yep technically you can doo eveyhing.
3. SFF command a premium and still is more foot pring than a laptop and if you have a powerful desktop (SFF or not) you do not game on anything less than a 27" QHD screen as you said yourself.
end of the day, two different use cases.

I travel a ton, edit, do heavy video rendering, game, do presentations, and I couldn't imagine moving a tower around.
Walk into a conference room, unload a suitcase with a tower, keyboard, monitor, cords, stack them onto a table then talk about data/network solutions?
If someone can build a 3070ti/6800/ddr5 PC with a monitor, keyboard, trackpad, and a portable battery to power it for 2 hours, please, send me the build sheet.

My gaming laptop is used for more than just gaming. 3D modeling, photoshop, etc.
The convenience of being able to just throw my laptop and charger in my backpack beats hauling my 20lb pc, monitor, keyboard, cables, etc. And that would require a full on suitcase to fit everything, never mind traveling with it securely.
There is no comparison. It's like comparing a landline phone to a cell phone.
Was that the new price or open box? Around me there are open boxes excellent for 1015$.
It's the least reliable, buggiest, worst laptop I've ever bought. Constant black screens, terrible software driving the "smartaccess" graphics switch leading to outrageous instability. Significantly louder and worse thermals than the older unit. I heartily cannot recommend Alienware anymore, even though my laptop may not be representative of the whole lineup. I deeply regret my purchase.
I would consider the lenovo legions instead.
