Perhaps a gaming laptop isn't the right laptop for you.

125W + 25W, if I'm not mistaken.
So, full wattage.

Absolutely atrocious If you keep it with the stock install (lots of ghost processes eating the battery) . Less than 2h.
After fresh install and not installing any Alienware crap. It was slightly better

Legion 5i pro > Acer Predator Helios 300 >>>>>> this Alienware
It's also a computer, you may or may not use for important personal stuff. 7i Nice build if you're only going to game, otherwise, I'm an idiot for buying a Lenovo. Take that for what it's worth, but people don't even like the fact Google listens to them when they want to use hey Google, privacy n stuff.

- mobility/flexibility - some people like to work and game on the go.
- footprint
- included screen and keyboard.

it also doe snto help when high end GPU cost 1k+ basically the price of a full gaming laptop

you can always build a better / more powerful gaming PC than a laptop at a given price but. not by that much any longer. CPU's are now a wash, the gap between desktop and laptop gpu is reducing.
If you drop 1k on a GPU these days ("post pandemic"), you're doing so to get performance/drive a resolution/fps that a 1k gaming laptop can't even dream of. Not comparable at all.

Portability, ok sure that is implied, but to the original message, you can theoretically transport a desktop. But, the value/$ delta is still significant.

Footprint... I suppose if you're in a dorm room. But a SFF case with even a 21" monitor isn't that huge.

1. i said the gap is getting smaller not that a laptop can beat a desktop. but again if you spend 1k on a GPU your rig probably cost 2k+.
2. transport a desktop, screen, keyboard, cables is quite a hassle but yep technically you can doo eveyhing.
3. SFF command a premium and still is more foot pring than a laptop and if you have a powerful desktop (SFF or not) you do not game on anything less than a 27" QHD screen as you said yourself.

end of the day, two different use cases.

I don't see how people cant understand this. Yes, desktops are better price/performance. Not initially, but after replace components, yes.

I travel a ton, edit, do heavy video rendering, game, do presentations, and I couldn't imagine moving a tower around.

Walk into a conference room, unload a suitcase with a tower, keyboard, monitor, cords, stack them onto a table then talk about data/network solutions?

If someone can build a 3070ti/6800/ddr5 PC with a monitor, keyboard, trackpad, and a portable battery to power it for 2 hours, please, send me the build sheet.

Lol, a laptop is infinitely more portable than a desktop. I have both high spec pc and laptop. I use my desktop at home and whenever I'm on the road or traveling i'll bring my laptop.

My gaming laptop is used for more than just gaming. 3D modeling, photoshop, etc.

The convenience of being able to just throw my laptop and charger in my backpack beats hauling my 20lb pc, monitor, keyboard, cables, etc. And that would require a full on suitcase to fit everything, never mind traveling with it securely.

There is no comparison. It's like comparing a landline phone to a cell phone.

The Asus will play Youtube on low brightness for 10 hours, the Alienware for 2, maybe 3 (this is also why I sold my AW M15 R4 which I snagged for $700 open box excellent and why I cancelled the M15 R5 I snagged for $920 open box excellent). My decision I guess has been made even before buying this model. I mostly use my laptop for charting, YouTube, and old games so the Asus is a better choice for me due to the battery life even if all other things are equal or less impressive on the Asus. Honesty I don't need a gaming laptop but "want" the ability to play games just in case, plus on sale the Asus is relatively close in price to a nice productivity laptop anyway. Tell me what you decide though and share the passmark and timespy scores etc if you can!

This or the Asus ROG Strix G15 5980HX 6800M for $920? (Price is higher now but I'm debating about returning and getting this, although it would be silly to get another AW M15 R4 when I just sold an M15 R4 3 weeks ago lol).

Was that the new price or open box? Around me there are open boxes excellent for 1015$.

I picked up the 2022 Zerpyrus 14, but if I can get the same battery life with a bigger screen for a similar price I'd rather go that route and give up ~1lb in weight.

I can't speak specifically to this model. After owning and loving an m17 r4 with an i7 6820HK and GTX 1080, I updated last year to an m17 r5 with an 6900hx and rx 6850m.

It's the least reliable, buggiest, worst laptop I've ever bought. Constant black screens, terrible software driving the "smartaccess" graphics switch leading to outrageous instability. Significantly louder and worse thermals than the older unit. I heartily cannot recommend Alienware anymore, even though my laptop may not be representative of the whole lineup. I deeply regret my purchase.
I would consider the lenovo legions instead.

That was for open box excellent. Price has increased to ~1015 now like you mention. I also snagged an Alienware M15 R5 for $920 open box excellent but cancelled before it was shipped and someone else snagged it an hour later, it was the last one. I liked the Alienware design, size, RGB, keyboard, and screen on my M15 R4; but the atrocious battery life and high CPU/GPU temps (which resulted in constant CPU throttling even with BIOS TCC set to 10 and undervolting, and that model had the vapor cool chamber too) were enough for me to sell the laptop even though I had purchased a 3 year warranty with it through BB lol. The Asus ROG Strix is just so much better in the aspects that matter to me most (and overall performs better than my M15 R4 on every single benchmark I've tried, especially with dual rank ram, if you need to know which one to buy let me know, I went through 5 different sets of RAM (no joke, I know, I'm crazy) to find the best one, in fact the last RAM modules arrive today after a delay on amazon shipping)); with a few easy tweaks on armoury crate the performance is incredible and temps are better (while running benchmarks CPU jumps up to 95C at times and GPU to 80C but with gaming they are better than this). Anyway, hope this helps!

Good choice, I personally could not game on anything smaller than 15.6", 14" is just too small, I feel like I have to hunch over to see anything lol especially on anything higher than 1080p

Well, landline phones have gotten pretty lightweight... Smilie Not the best analogy, but I get your point. For road warriors who want to game, makes sense. I'd probably look at one of the cloud streaming options instead and opt for long battery life and lightweight, but that would depend on finding quality connectivity on the road, which is questionable.
