Perhaps a gaming laptop isn't the right laptop for you.

125W + 25W, if I'm not mistaken.
So, full wattage.

Absolutely atrocious If you keep it with the stock install (lots of ghost processes eating the battery) . Less than 2h.
After fresh install and not installing any Alienware crap. It was slightly better

Well, landline phones have gotten pretty lightweight... Smilie Not the best analogy, but I get your point. For road warriors who want to game, makes sense. I'd probably look at one of the cloud streaming options instead and opt for long battery life and lightweight, but that would depend on finding quality connectivity on the road, which is questionable.
That is an excellent analogy... One is considerably smaller and portable, and the other isn't. Is it possible to take a landline somewhere else and use it? Sure, but that's ridiculous, just like a desktop computer would be a pain to transport and is just silly (I've done it myself though, but boy is it a hassle). Both cell phones and laptops can also be used anywhere without a power source, and neither the desktop nor landline phone can (is it possible with a power generator? Sure, but that's just not practical). For 99% of people laptops and cell phones are portable, desktops and land lines aren't... Also no true gamer, unless they are on 1 gigabit internet, will be happy with cloud gaming (and even then with google fiber it still has hiccups, I speak from personal experience), especially when latency or quick reflexes are important... Just take the loss kid...laugh out loud

Do yourself a favor, check the service tag on dell site for how long the warranty is. Mine from bestbuy showed 7 months remaining on sealed brand new!

Can anybody compare this one to the OMEN 17 inch deal https://slickdeals.net/f/16495042-hp-omen-17-12700h-3070-ti-1200-microcenter?page=5#comments
I know the screen size difference already, but what about the processor and other things. The price for the OMEN is very good for a brand new 17inch gaming laptop with the almost same spec as this one so.
Pro Slick Dealers, Please comment on comparing the two, TIA!

In my case it's nice to be able to bring a laptop on a trip to do some gaming away from home, when visiting or traveling with a gaming friend. Or when my friend visits for a weekly game session and we game locally it's obviously easier to bring a laptop to game. Bringing a desktop would be tedious to do weekly, for an occasional LAN party then yeah it's not a big deal to move a desktop once in a while.. Minimalists would also appreciate having one machine that can cover these more mobile use cases, and take up less space while at it, less cables and devices to connect together too.
I totally agree with you. I at least gather at a coffee shop bringing my gaming laptop to have a lan party with my friends playing LOL, CS, Diablo or Velorant. I'd rather have a high spec laptop with about 6lb weight/decent graphic card RTX3070 or over. It's just so much fun playing with friends on sight and trash talk to others. You gotta socialize during this post pandemic era. You won't be able to move 30lbs desk top and I drive a two seater there won't be enough space for a desk top. T.T

That was for open box excellent. Price has increased to ~1015 now like you mention. I also snagged an Alienware M15 R5 for $920 open box excellent but cancelled before it was shipped and someone else snagged it an hour later, it was the last one. I liked the Alienware design, size, RGB, keyboard, and screen on my M15 R4; but the atrocious battery life and high CPU/GPU temps (which resulted in constant CPU throttling even with BIOS TCC set to 10 and undervolting, and that model had the vapor cool chamber too) were enough for me to sell the laptop even though I had purchased a 3 year warranty with it through BB lol. The Asus ROG Strix is just so much better in the aspects that matter to me most (and overall performs better than my M15 R4 on every single benchmark I've tried, especially with dual rank ram, if you need to know which one to buy let me know, I went through 5 different sets of RAM (no joke, I know, I'm crazy) to find the best one, in fact the last RAM modules arrive today after a delay on amazon shipping)); with a few easy tweaks on armoury crate the performance is incredible and temps are better (while running benchmarks CPU jumps up to 95C at times and GPU to 80C but with gaming they are better than this). Anyway, hope this helps!
Never had a gaming laptop so this Asus is my first. I've been intrigued by the other brands especially the Alienware. so hearing your thoughts/opinions is super helpful. I also plan to upgrade the ram so it sounds like on the Strix both slots are upgradeable? For me its work first then game second, so reliability, capable cpu/gpu, upgradeable ram and battery life are priorities

Good choice, I personally could not game on anything smaller than 15.6", 14" is just too small, I feel like I have to hunch over to see anything lol especially on anything higher than 1080p
I plan to output to a 55" tv when I can. but may have to invest in a nicer monitor for daily tasks

What do you think of the TUF line ( and this deal specifically) and where does it fit into the ROG lineup?

Those are low wattage RTX3070. Only 105W compared to 150W on this one.

The Omen's CPU is around 20-25% faster than the Ryzen 7 6800h.

The Alienware's screen seems better. 240hz, G-SYNC...

everything else is pretty much the same.

Why do folks get gaming laptops over desktops? Just don't want to drag a setup to a lan party like we used to? So many value benefits of a desktop. Thermals, serviceability, upgradeable, etc.

I'm sure there are solid use cases, just curious what they are.
Sit in the living room couch with my family and still be able to play video games.

Yeah, the Gigabyte is not the best choice but the difference in performance isn't that stark (~10%) between a full wattage 3070Ti like in the Lenovo legion 7 for example and the AERO I posted (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjmU5RMVeO0), but I wouldn't get the Gigabyte anyway; the TUF is lower tdp 3070 but 200$ cheaper so I think it is an excellent alternative for those on a tighter budget. Just some extra options especially since the AW is now sold out.

I have been using TUF components for my computer builds for years and never had an issue. For the price I think this TUF laptop is pretty good, it depends if you can wait a little longer though, if you are patient you may find a better option at a similar price (like I did for $920 for the Asus ROG Strix G15 with a 5980HX and a 6800M). Good luck!
