It's hard to compare them. Nvidia has some proprietary features people value to the point that they would prefer a 3060 to a 6950xt.

But this is probably the strongest GPU generation AMD has ever had. Vanilla rasterization performance is directly comparable.

6600xt to 3060
6650xt to 3060ti
6700xt to 3070
.....
6950xt to 3090ti

AMD wins consistently at 1440p, frames per watt, and frames per dollar.

Nvidia consistently wins 4k, dominates ray tracing, and has some rendering and encoding advantages for content creators.

About what exactly? The difference is small.

I have a 3080, it's a really great GPU. A 3080 is still about 800 dollars. You can get a 6950xt for 680 dollars. A 6950xt completely stomps a 3080. But a couple people on here will go "it's only a little faster" it's not true, my gf has one and we play next to each other and it's 10-50% faster depending on the game and there's a dozen good professional reviews saying it's equal to a 3090ti.

Prices on GPU's have come down. They came down allot more on AMD GPU's then Nvidia GPU's, so if you are comparing prices and are confused by which GPU's to compare to each other, I understand.

Compared by price, there is not a single Nvidia card that is better then it's AMD equivalent right now.

A 6800 is like the same price as a 3060ti. A 3070 is almost double the price of the card in this post and that's just ridiculous, that's why it's not making sense to you probably.

Unless you just really really hate AMD and want an Nvidia gpu, there is not much of a reason to get a Nvidia GPU right now, unless you are getting a 4090 or maybe a 4080.

I'm sure this is true, but I've not been able to find anything that quantifies the performance disparity.

If you REALLY want to see/use ray-tracing or DLSS in games, it's pretty clear you will want to go with Nvidia over AMD.

I was very much in this camp, until the more recent price discrepancies (AMD slightly dropping in price and Nvidia slightly increasing) and the value prop is just not there for Nvidia anymore (for me), and getting worse.

I REALLY wanted to play RT Minecraft, but for the current price difference, no thanks.

I also 'converted' when I started reading that to be able to play a game with RT turned on (and higher gfx settings) at 1440 you will need a higher tier Nvidia card than what I was considering anyway, so it kind of became moot for me.

Right and you can also overclock a RX 6750 XT far beyond an overclocked 6700 XT. So let's compare apples with apples.

$345 vs $380

10% more money

Stock vs stock

6% difference at 1080p
5% difference at 1440p

Apples vs apples is the MSI Mech OC 6700 XT at $360 vs the MSI Mech OC 6750 XT at $380. The price difference is $20 or 5% more money.

ASROCK Challenger is a bit of a lesser card than the MSI frankly.

Tom's Hardware puts the 6750 XT at 6.5% faster @ 1440p Ultra and 5.5% faster @ 1020p Ultra. Since most people buying this class of card are gaming at 1440p the 6.5% advantage of the 6750 XT is still ahead for another twenty bucks. Both are good values. I would and did go for the RX 6750 XT myself.

The 6700xt at 1080p is a beast but Nvidia has better tools but cost more. DLSS is more widely adopted and better than FSR for now. These things let you run games beyond their abilities with little visual reduction. The 6750 is worth it for the small price difference. The boost in clock speed helps less with the max fps but the low FPS that causes hitches. Also weaker RT performance than 3070. RT is good for some games and crap for others. With the price difference it's clear 6700/6750 is the best value at 1080p. Also 12gb vs 8 of the 3070 might help a few years from now to remain relevant. Nvidia released 3 gen of mid range cards at 8tb of vram.

Nvidia is much better at ray tracing but the AMD cards can do raytracing in some games just fine.

A 6800xt is pretty close to a 3060ti with ray tracing and would play Minecraft with raytracing just fine.

AMD is definitely not the best choice for ray tracing but they definitely do ray tracing and you can turn it on and see how much you like it and if it's worth the performance hit. My girlfriend with a 6950xt plays Minecraft, control and hitman and stuff like that with RT on. They are somewhat in the same ballpark as 2xxx Nvidia cards for raytracing.

I never use DLSS. Unless you are getting low fps with noticable screen tearing, you shouldn't use DLSS. It increases input lag and doesn't have any of the real benefits of high fps gaming. It's mostly a great feature for the lower end cards or single player games where RT hurts performance really bad like cyberpunk. It really shines below 30 fps and is usually pretty good between 30-60 fps.

It's a nice feature to have but It's definitely not something you should always turn on and use all the time.

this deal brings the 6700xt to a 58 at 3rd place on the passmark value chart. making it the official got to imo

this is where this card needs to be and stay, a lot of people have been figuring this to of been official by now, and from here all the other card should ideally tinker down

HOWEVER grabbing a red devil 5700xt which can score a 17500 g3d can be had for $185 on ebay this deal is a 90 on this list demolishing any other deal out there. throw on some fsr 2.1 and your playing anything at 1440p easy. Save money for the next gen and play with great enjoyment in the mean time, If you want a budget nvidia it's the 3070, but I say do this instead. the 3060 makes no sense imo

3070 is overpriced new or used and 8GB is lacking. Better yet, the 6700XT can be had for $300 on eBay. You can also find 6600XTs for under $200. So pass on the older 5700XT.

That's why rdna 3 was such a huge disappointment. Something must've gone wrong during r and D. At this point I'm not sure if I can wait much longer to replace my aging gtx 1070.

My point was nvidia's out of the budget discussion imo
yeah, I'm with finding a used 6700xt
but a 5700xt red devil OC'ed can be had for half of the 6700xt's 350, and it beats the 6600xt for $50 less (the 6600xt's at ~350, the RD 5700xt is on there for 200/best offer, offer 175. My idea is save 175 bucks, wait out the price drops on the new high end stuff.
then sell the card for ~150-160, then your really saving money, with fsr 2.1 you're really gaming too.
but it's just an idea, I say do whatever you want
