RS cut down some of the long tracking shots but put in over 5 minutes of additional footage for the directors cut

If you have an Apple TV or iPhone, you can watch both 1979 Theatrical Version and the 2003 Director's Cut of the film when you buy the theatrical version Alien.

One of the rare instances where most fans prefer the theatrical cut over the directors cut. The theatrical version builds suspense and was pretty much aligned with the vision of Ridley Scott. The directors cut was really just to milk profits from the franchise when they planned the DVD release decades later

Wait really?

I always thought it was the other way around...the directors cut shows the aliens in the vents and such

"The so-called 'Director's Cut' of Alien is edited to be paced a little more quickly, but also contains the late Dallas scene, which largely contradicts the later life cycle of the alien as shown in Aliens."

"The Alien DC isn't even a true director's cut. Scott's preferred cut is the theatrical, he was asked to make a DC for the DVD release and produced the "director's cut" for them. He says on the disc itself that he uses that name for convenience sake and considers it simply an alternative, the film he wanted to make is the theatrical."

You are correct. Buy the regular version 4K and it port to MA both versions in 4K.

There are always some 4K UHD digital movies free for Prime membership, for now e.g. LICORICE PIZZA, The Scorpion King, Indiana Jones, 007 No Time to Die, Jurassic World Dominion, etc. Hope the Alien will be free in the future.
