For those who aren't totally familiar with weightlifting: this is not a full length bar, like the ones you would see in a commercial gym used to bench press/squat/deadlift. Those are 7ft long and weigh 20 kilos or 45 lbs, depending on their usage and region.

6 ft bars weigh less (usually 25-35 lbs, rather than 45lbs) and are used for ancillary exercises. A true women's Olympic bar (the bars used in Olympic competitions for females) are 6ft 6" and weigh 15 kilos. The weight limit on this bar (300lbs) is quite low by lifting standards, which reinforces the fact that it's not meant for heavy lifting. That's not a bad thing, but don't buy this bar and try to use it to bench or squat: it almost certainly won't sit safely in a traditional rack, because the collars won't extend out far enough.

Glad I could help! Just note that this is a "standard" barbell, which refers to the size of the collars (which corresponds to the hole in the middle of the weights), so you need to make sure you have "standard" sized weights to load onto the bar. "Standard" bars also don't typically have rotating collars, whereas "Olympic" bars do (but not always), and the rotating collar is essential to prevent the bar itself from rotating during dynamic lifts (and tearing up your hands/injuring your forearms).

This bar is much more suited to things like standing lunges, bicep curls, skullcrushers, and the like--basically movements where the bar does not need to be racked and is not subject to dynamic movement.

This is not an Olympic bar with 2" collars. It's a standard bar with 1" collars.

Ah crap I didnt know that about the collar and the weight hole diameter, it will probably be going back then. All my plates are Olympic so this wont work. Might have to just pony up the $ for a technique bar. Thank you!!

Mine just came in. It's in perfect shape. I intend to use it in the squat position, rotating my shoulders back and forth to work my core.

I've been using a large 3#, 6' walking stick, but it's not nearly heavy enough. I end up getting bored of the exercise before my core actually gets tired.

I might also buy some weights to do some very light squats, but I do have a 70# kettle bell that works for now. I'm just getting back into light lifting, so YMMV, of course.

Just being facetious. I figured most could figure out the real answer pretty easily.
If that were the case they wouldn't have asked in the first place.

Here's an Olympic one that was posted a few days ago. 5' and 6' options.

Got this in the mail a few days ago, arrived in good shape.
My dad had given me 200-300 lbs of 1" weights and a 5 foot bar a decade ago, and I've added slowly over the years on deals, so this was perfect for me as a casual lifter.
I did deadlift with 285 lbs and it felt stable. I may add a little more when I work up to it (it says 300 lbs max, so I won't go much over that) but I don't have room for a 7 foot bar, and don't want to rebuy all weights in Olympic so I'm pretty happy with this for $15.

One says explicitly in the description that it's 6'. The second shows the dimensions in one of the pics. It's not rocket surgery. Why are you being so serious about this?

I received one of these and is a 24mm bar not a 25.6mm bar. FYI

These are great for using standard weights. Lots of mentions of it not being an "Olympic" sized bar (ie. 2", 45lbs), but not everyone has Olympic-sized weights nor the space/room for such a setup.

I'm comfortable using this style of bar up to 300lbs.

Obviously those who do squats/deadlifts/presses of over >300lbs are best served with an Olympic-setup...

I've used a similar 6' standard (1") bar for a few years. That length works well on my 42" inside width Titan rack.

I'm confident I'll never press over 300#. I also do Belgian squats, so I don't use a barbell.

1" is probably fine for most people....BUT...

If you are certain you will remain committed to strength training, seriously consider going olympic (2" hole) from the start. Everything is a little more expensive, but you needn't worry about weight plates not fitting rack attachments you might want in the future.

At this point if I wanted various attachments, I'd have to replace all my weight plates. Kinda sux.
