I've read the speakers are tinny.

Intel CPU Tiger Lake 11th gen chips are horrendously poor performers. They're only 25% better than 7th gen chips (four full generations).

12th gen chips (2022) increased performance by 50%.

13th gen chips (this year) are double the performance of 11th gen chips.

The refurb gives pause b/c I've never purchased a refurb laptop, but I think this is the lowest I've seen an LG gram. Impressive deal for sure if you are ok with the refurb aspect of buying a laptop. I don't know much about performance of the chips like the other post is saying, but to get the 12th or 13th gen chip, I would think you probably need to pay at least $700-800 for the LG Gram (double check me on $$). Up to each individual whether the significant increase in cost is worth that bump in performance.

This sure comes with a lot of asterisks and a ton of salt, but it is a very useful quick comparison.

I recently got a 17" gram from a similar ebay refurb deal for $750 for a remote position. Haven't tried it for heavy duty work or gaming, just office work and streaming.

Pros: super light weight, great battery life, snappy

Con: nothing glaring so far

12 gen is more likely to get thermal throttled when comparing to 11 gen. Also, in generally, 11 gen will provide longer battery life due to the number of cores.

But it also comes with some advantages over the 12th gen.

11th gen is more energy efficient, 12th gen has a power boost because of increased clock speeds, but run hotter, consumes more energy, and to actually have the M1-rivalling performance, needs to be plugged in. Otherwise the performance increase its not as enticing, while the worse battery life and the increased price doesn't help the value proposition.

I get 12-14 hrs with my LG 14 with i7 12th gen. Nobody knows what they're talking about.
There's no thermal throttling with i7 vs i5, and i7 has better battery life. 1920x1200 is also awesome unlike this crappy 1080p screen and this 15.6" has no thunderbolt 4.

I paid $589 + tax. Best laptop ever. Like it more than my $2k XPS

I returned mine in Costco after I had problems with the hinges. The laptop is super light weight but that means the monitor hinges are not very sturdy. For a touch screen, you keep pushing the screen often and over time the hinges have issues. Also, terrible speakers. Otherwise excellent battery life, super light weight and portable.
