I wouldn't overpay for a MIPS helmet but I'd pay $60 for one.

No, you don't need MIPS. Two of the best helmet manufacturers in the world, Arai and Shoei, do not buy into overpaying for a MIPS sticker.

This is a good helmet. I totaled one in a crash and went out and bought exactly the same one to replace it.

TLD helmets seem to fit my head well--a lot of other brands I feel like I am between sizes and either end up too tight or too lose.

I'm not a rich man. I currently have a $20 walmart helmet. Is this an excellent deal on this helmet? I don't want brain damage and the combination of bad drivers, bad fellow cyclists and bad roads means I should probably upgrade. Some homeless bum on a bike almost wiped me out at 20mph the other day, didn't shoulder check, just came over.

Great deal. I don't need a helmet right now but always nice to have spares as one hard hit and you should throw them away.

It's a great Helmet with MIPS. As a note, there's nothing wrong with a $20 Walmart helmet. You have Helmet is better than no helmet.

MIPS is amazing. Had my first helmet to ground collision while getting a little too spirited when I got my Surron and the MIPS did an amazing job isolating my head and really not transferring the impact into it. These helmets are revolutionary - the air cushion they offer is a must.

Did Shoei and Arai start making bicycle helmets?

They have not. Also the liners in motorcycle helmets serve as a slip liner with a similar function to MIPS.
