Just giving a heads-up. Many people might not be aware, but there's a critical vulnerability on many Android phones where a hacker can take complete control over your phone by just knowing your phone number (and wifi calling is active on your phone). Luckily Google has released an update for many of the phones vulnerable to this yesterday. You have to manually go into your Android phone and search for an update for your phone and it will push the update to you.

More details about the vulnerability: https://www.androidauthority.com/...s-3299355/

Since so many people are affected by this I figured this was worthy of being posted!

It is crazy, I'm a big Pixel fan and my 6 Pro did NOT let me know that I needed an update, let alone one as severe as this. Definitely a red flag that needs to be fixed.
What OS is your Google pixel? (sarcastic)

I have an unaffected Samsung and my feeds tell me of the vulnerability, just not the patch availablity.

I click to learn. I would have been all up in that but I have the affected settings off so it didn't bother me.

I'm incredibly confused - why is an Android OS update being put as it's own thread? Where's the Slick Deal?

If this is truly a Slick Deal, should I start threads for every critical update on Windows, iOS, Adobe, FireFox, Chrome, and maybe even BIOS updates?

I get wanting to share the news that there's an Android update, it's important info that many people need if the phones aren't automatically notifying users, but this does not seem to me to be what SD is for.

Start those threads if you choose, is the most obvious thing to do if you're confused.

If it's a worthy update, then it will get up voted and discussed. If it's pedantic, then it won't be.

Okay, so Slick Deals is officially just an unorganized Reddit where we start threads about everything?

The SD community has done a great job keeping threads focused on deals, or downvoting stuff that isn't a deal (even if it's about a product), other than recent stuff that's clearly sponsored or organized upvotes by bots or others. I just don't want to see SD deteriorate after it's been doing so well so long.

This one has merit I think considering the massive numbers of us that bought an affected phone that was posted on slickdeals in the first place. Hell I bet there's deals right now on those affected phones.

To be clear, not all Samsung phones are affected, just the Exynos (e.g. non-US) variants. But I agree with the others, why is this post here?

Maybe I live under a rock, but I found out about this vulnerability Slickdeals yesterday. No direct notification from Google. So really appreciative for this post on Slickdeals even though it may not apply to all.

It's a critical update. Google rarely releases an update this quickly and without warning. This is probably one of the largest security holes ever found on a google phone. The fact that a phone could be taken over by simply having someone's phone number is pretty terrible!

You're welcome! Google does a terrible job of alerting their customers of updates. It's something they need to get better at.
