I'm A+ certifified and have worked with computers at home since I was younger. I've setup my own home network/WiFi using pfSense and Unifi equipment. I've been having trouble obtaining my first entry level IT job. Every place want 10 years experience for an entry level role. Currently in the healthcare industry for over a decade and looking to switch careers.

I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback!

I would love to learn cloud stuff like AWS, Azure and Google cloud. Cybersecurity is also on my radar.

Currently working to obtain Network+ and learning Linux.
I started my IT field at a dealership. They didn't know anything. I got to experiment and screw up a lot of things. They were cheap so they got what they needed and I got what I needed. Lol

I am trying to get into Cloud Computing. What I need to know is if this Promo Code is only for the Test, or it gives one the study materials/videos on the subject and then the Certification Test? Please Clarify

A+ is the equivalent of 6 mos of hardware experience. I remember the Geeks wouldnt touch me with 10 years hands on experience because I was lacking that piece of paper. I fell back on being cute and a secretary. I now manage an outsourced IT company in the southwest. We hire for aptitude and work ethic - the tech skills can be taught. And then we guide folks at certifications to satisfy our vendor partnership requirements. IT for small private companies is cushy and predictable but your growth path is kind of limited. Working for a company that does the IT for other companies can be frenetic but you get to take your toys to all kinds of different sandboxes.

It's just for a retake. You sign up to take the initial exam, enter the promo code at checkout and with the payment for the initial they will give you a voucher for a retake in case you fail. Nothing else is included.

This is just for the test. You would have to do learning yourself using materials from free AWS courses and then some paid courses like urlhasbeenblocked

Is this deal really that slick? It's just for retake, which isn't worth anything for people who pass the first time. Only a small bonus for someone who was planning to take the exam in this time window anyway. Not to be arrogant, but I have a 100% first attempt pass rate for professional certification exams because I only attempt them when I can score significantly higher than the minimim passing score.

If anything, this is marketing for AWS to try to get us to sway to learn AWS vs. another cloud service if we were on the fence.

I did sign up for the free training, but I am under the impression that it's always free. So that's not really a deal either.

Thank you for the response. At this point, I'm just trying to get into maybe a help desk or desktop support role to get experience and learn new skills. You make a great point. From what I've seen, they seem to be asking for a whole lot... I even got referred by an acquaintance and that didn't work. I've tried tailoring my resume to each individual job post/application and doing research. I will keep going and perhaps obtain some AWS, Cisco and Microsoft certs along the way.

How long do these take to complete and what kind of experience beforehand do they require?

I was in the same boat, cisco certified network admin well only on paper, knocked so many doors only to be told they need someone with experience. That time I realized the market pretty saturated. Happily in a different profession now for over a decade now. Still learning IT at home on weekend through online courses like this to keep up to date with changing tech

What did you choose instead?

I'm a computer science major, I asked my buddy about getting into network engineering.

His response was that you need to do work as a help desk tech before you are allowed anywhere near a multi million dollar network. You need to have many years of experience with a big network before you are allowed in a cloud server room and you need to have many years of experience in a cloud server room before you're trusted with cyber security.

These aren't jobs you can read or study your way into. You need years of demonstratable experience before you get an "entry level cloud networking position", as the amount of liability and money at stake is very high.

Also, the Cisco certifications are much more heavily valued than an A+ cert.

Have you considered moving into a technical role in the healthcare industry? Healthcare workers are generally very bad with technology. They are always looking for people to train medical personnel on how to use software or handle IT related issues around the facility.

It's likely not work from home role as they want training right?
