I didn't knock down anything on American manufacturing at all. I just stated that Knipex is a high quality German tool manufacturer.

ProjectFarm did a test of these and Knipex beat every other plier set.

German made and these cobra pliers GRIP. Other channel locks will slip due to soft steel and poor quality. Knipex is one of the leading manufacturers of high quality hand tools.

If check to see what he already has. This is one of their most popular tools, but is available in a variety of sizes.

Just curious, why is this lot more expensive than other pliers/brands. Couple of months ago Lowes had Kobalt brand for under $10. I understand it may be slightly better quality.

Got those last time they were on sale ($28.90, October 2022). They are really nice, and surprisingly capable with a wide opening. They also have a narrow jaw that gets in tight spots easily. Pricey, but IMHO worth it at the sale price.

I also have a comparable Irwin channel locks, bought last year, and they are already rusted, and also much wider, so harder for tasks like tightening air fittings etc.

Decent price, though the non sale HD price is $38. The $57 regular price is a bit of a stretch

Lets not get carried away here, Knipex are premium - -but Channellocks don't slip if you know how to use them and they aren't made of poor quality steel - they are made in Pennsylvania by a proud bunch of American loving men & women..

It's more than slightly better quality. Better materials, design, workmanship, and warranty translate to a buy-quality-buy-once tool. It's especially useful when there's only so much room in your toolbox and you want to make sure everything in there is worth its place.

Despite already having these (and other) Knipex pliers, I did buy that Kobalt set too — to have something I can beat on without potentially ruining a $50 tool. I'll also be buying another one of these now.

It's been more like $35-40 for the last year.
