The 12.9 model and the 11 inch model generations don't line up - that's the disconnect here.

This is the 3rd gen of the 11" iPad Pro.

I bought one last week. This is the 3rd generation iPad Pro 11 inch with the M1 chip and has the additional ram memory (16GB).

I was looking for more storage space - more than 256GB and decided to jump to 2TB given the price on Costco. Great deal.

does anyone actually keep up with what generation is what? it seems like the purpose is to confuse the customer. can't they just say ipad pro 2018?

iPad is a better video editor than people realize, if you have the LumaFusion app. The extra storage space is very important and useful when you're editing videos.

Outside of artistic endeavors most people can just go with a cheap android tablet :-)

There seems to be some confusion on Generations/power here. These things are fast, 3rd gen iPad Pro 11(2021)there is a 4th gen which added two features m2 chip and angle Apple Pencil support. The chips in these are extremely fast for reference the 2018 iPad Pro 11 1st gen is still faster than the latest Samsung Galaxy tab s8. These with the m1 are closer to a mobile 12th gen i7(depending on laptop cooling).

If the Apple Pencil angle support doesn't matter to you this is a great deal if you want a ton of local storage.

While I agree that just specifying the generation at this point is confusing, especially when there are different generations for different size iPad Pros, if they said it was 2018, that would be wrong.

What I wish they would specify is something like 2021 10" iPad Pro (M1) with 2TB to make things clear. Just like I wish people posting MacBook Pros would specify the RAM and Storage all the time rather than assuming people know what the base amounts are and assuming that's what the device has if not specifying.

Really hope something similar happens with the 12.9 models, this is a really good deal, but the 12.9 has a bit better screen which for me matters quite a bit.

As far as I know, 3rd gen iPad Pro is 2021, 4th is 2022. I bought and 3rd gen 11" iPad Pro last year and it has M1 chip.

There is a great deal on the cellular 12.9" version at Best Buy. Not as good but good enough.
