I wish they'd released a I5-12500K. Would've give us all the sandy bridge feels. That 2500K ran for waaaaay longer than it was supposed to. In fact I think it is still quite a capable processor, more than a decade after its release. I remember I was able to OC it to 4.7GHZ.
I'm still rocking an i7-4770k in my main build. No issues with the pc other then my h100i the water pump went out. So replace with an air cooled on. I keep telling myself just wait a bit longer before I build a new one.

All of the "best cpus for gaming" articles are silly. Gaming is so heavily gpu bound that your 4770 is going to be just fine for a really long time to come.

I have a 3770 non k (using the free overclock hack to 4.1 all cores). It is still very capable today!

Depends on the game you're playing. There are games that are CPU bound. Also you are prone to drastic fps drops with older gen CPUs on modern games. Can you run modern games on older hardware? Absolutely, but there are clear advantages to upgrade.

Not hating on old hardware at all, actually just built a 3770 + 1080 ti for my friends kid so he can play Fortnite and Valorant, he gets about 250 fps on 1080p but I see fps drop to 120s ever so often.

Very true, of course there are benefits if you set your standards and expectations high enough. My main is a 5900x and I do indeed see a big difference from when I was in the 3770... But only if I start expecting solid 120+, etc. It's all just numbers though - in terms of actual experience I hardly feel any difference

Exactly this. I don't need lots of cores, but I do want 4 of them to be high performance. The i3 is perfect for that.

The 13600k is about 11% faster than the 12600k. That is not double the performance. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Com...4134vs4120

What would be a good gaming B660/B760 micro ATX motherboard for this CPU? Just for gaming. There is an Asus z690 micro ATX motherboard but it is $300.

If you aren't overclocking, I'd focus on the cheaper side. Gigabyte's got a 660 chipset model that's perfectly fine for most common use cases, does XMP, and works great. $99-ish. $300 is crazy for a motherboard.

The Asus Prime Z690 is considerably less than $300, if for some reason you must have the Zx90 chipset.
