The Red is 256 mb cache and the Red Plus is 128 mb cache
...and? Having an extra 128MB of cache isn't going to help when your whole array fails because your SMR drives dropped out during heavy I/O, or took 2 weeks to resilver.

The plus says 256mb cache right in the title. Where are you seeing 128?

You have to enter the promo code during checkout. The item page says "save $20" because the listed $129 is $20 less than the regular $149. But the OP is correct, you can order the drive for $100 plus tax with the promo code

(slaps head) boy I'm stupid Smilie .. thanks for clarifying that Smilie

I'm assuming this would be a really slow single drive in a system? So more like long term storage not daily accessed data

Funny story.. I wanted the western digital black cavier drive , 1 TB (which admittedly is faster at 7200 and is supposed to be faster in general though certainly outperformed by an SSD drive) .. amazon failed to ship me the correct drive twice in a row Smilie ... the first time it happened they were like " You know what ? Just keep it " so I got the 2 TB version of this drive for free , that amazon agent must have been in a great mood Smilie (had to return the second one though , amazon was kind enough to give me a promo credit for the trouble since it wasn't my fault the wrong drive got shipped out and I had to go to the local UPS store due to amazon's mistake)

Of course I was more than happy with this turn of events free hard drive ! Smilie And it's been working just fine for my purposes as far as storing data, playing videos and so forth ... so while yes a 7200 rpm drive would be faster if you're not looking for blazing fast speed (I find it more than fast enough for my purposes ) then grab it Smilie ..

On the other hand if you're like me keep waiting for prices to fall even further and take a gamble on them not going up again Smilie ..

I was referring to the drives on Amazon. I should have specified that. My bad.

Seeing so many nas drives on sale lately, I was hoping for a good deal on a NAS server instead
