da fuq is a kingspec? you get to a point in your life where you are okay with paying little extra for a known quantity over some questionable brands. for storage, i'm always going to err on that side
I'd much rather pay the difference for the Samsung for its proven reliability, customer service, and quick shipping + returns on Amazon.

The amount of time it would take and the headache I'd have to deal with if something actually went wrong is not worth saving $18, especially considering it's a drive with data on it that you'd rely on for uptime.
That seems a bit like a Yugo vs a Toyota. Cheaper, yeah......but.

It's a Gen 3 with maximum speed of 3,500 MB/sec reads. It should be far less than $55. There is a Samsung tax in play here. I can get one of the KingSpec 1 TB with heatsinks (unlike this Samsung) for $37, shipped. The KingSpec does 3,400 MB/sec. Another $10 off that price if I buy two, so that would be just $32 each.

$55 Is a great price for a drive that is at the top of the heap for anyone that has not moved to a PCI 4.0 capable motherboard.

Would this be good for a laptop? Meaning would it run cool? I know it depends on the laptop and other factors, but I'm trying to see if other shave used it in their laptops and what their opinion is. I've read that it can depend on the controller for the 970 evo plus.

No it's not a Yugo that's just wordplay. In fact it's a 3,400 MB/sec NVMe and comes with with a heat sink that the Samsung lacks. This is commodity storage. This isn't like RAM that fails to post at XMP speeds for example. It's 3,400 speed for KingSpec vs claimed 3,500 for the Samsung. Both approach the theoretical speed limit for the PCIe 4.0 bus.

PCIe 3.0?

Solid deal. I bought the 500 gb 3 years ago for over $100. What's the best/easiest way to transfer my files from that to this 1tb drive?

I'm not interested in those, but a search failed to find any for sale at even close to that price....
And I have no idea what you meant by "Both approach the theoretical speed limit for the PCIe 4.0 bus." As 3500 is just half of PCIe 4.0

Macrium Reflect to clone it.
