Be careful with the Saucony Endorphin Trail shoe. That shoe was initially launched in 2021 in Europe and then immediately recalled. There was manufacturing design problem with the shoe. It was swiftly taken off the market and never launched in the USA. Some of this inventory was picked up by TJX on the cheap and now these defective shoes are being sold through Sierra to unsuspecting customers. Check the RoadTrailRun review page for the shoe for more information.

The running shoe and sneaker deals have been unappealing this month. All of the deals have been for low quality department store grade shoes.

what is the nature of the defect? Is the defect in the Saucony Endorphin so bad that if I find them in the store on clearance for only $19, I should still pass?

I would be leery of using the defective Endorphin Trail no matter how cheap the price is. Below is a statement form Saucony provided to RTR regarding the removal of the Endorphin Trail from the market. The problem with the shoe is related to the midsole, the most crucial part of a shoe. Running on a shoe with a defectively manufactured midsole could possibly lead to injury. This could explain the extraordinary move by Saucony to pull the product from market.

"Our team has identified an inconsistency in the midsole component of a very small percentage of our Endorphin Trail shoes. While we thoroughly investigate the issue, we are pausing all marketing of the shoes."

It's really strange and irresponsible that Saucony didn't ensure that all of the Endorphin Trail units in the European retail chain were not sent back to Saucony for destruction. Somehow they ended up being purchased by liquidators and now TJX is selling them.
