I purchased this laptop almost a month ago when I posted the deal, turns out the "new open box" standard isn't strictly enforced. After receiving the item I found there were cosmetic flaws (dings) to the metal body and it was obvious it was used prior.

Also the item I received was recertified from a company called Computerland and the 90 day warranty is through their company. Safe to say Woot accepted the return of the item for a full discount and they even offered $200 additional discount if I wanted to keep the item but I felt duped and just returned it.

All in all, I would say this is still a good deal for a good condition laptop but don't expect to get a new item!
I bet you have never been hit by a car before neither, do you still look around when you're crossing the street?
Meh.. gonna keep waiting for the 14 to hit 1300

Not sure why people are worried about warranties. I've purchased dozens of computers over the last twenty years and I've never had any of them fail on me. Laptops, bare-bones, overclocked, iMacs, macbooks, etc...

I've probably saved thousands over the years which just means I can purchase more. Woot, ebay, open-box, etc..

Computers are pretty long-lasting things. I've had one cheap PC motherboard go out on me, one SSD and several old, spinning disks. Easy fixes.

Never had a macbook die on me and I own most of the generations from Core2Duo to Apple silicon.

That said, if you don't need the power of the 16", the 14" (or 13") are much lighter and easier to carry around while still handling everything fine.
This is an Apple. You have changed a motherboard or SSD on a M1?

My prior experience with "No Apple Warranty" was really bad. The Genius bar at the Apple store will not even touch this device as the serial number is ineligible for the paid service.

These MacBooks are New Open-Box in original Apple retail boxes, but do not come with an Apple Warranty.

Not sure why no Apple warranty
AppleCare is based on initial purchase. If they are open box, warranty will be based on when it was purchased, regardless of return.

AppleCare is understandable. But what about 1 year standard warranty? Why they don't have it?

Everything is less repairable these days. Can we not get into the useless PC vs Mac debates for the millionth time?
? This is the first anyone has brought that topic up in this thread. If someone says that the lack of warranty is not a big deal because you can just fix / replace the parts then it is worth discussing further.

Apple motherboard aren't cheap. Many Apple parts are solders and have ID blocks for these SoC devices. You can't swap touch id with another.

Warranty is a must if its a lemon on $1500 device. If it more than 50% off without warranty and you can micro solder, go for it spend countless hours repairing.

Thx for the heads-up. Is anyone familiar with how the free eBay 'QuickShip' one year warranty compares to the $99 Asurion 2 year warranty? It sounds like the eBay one is rather specious.
