I keep reading places that vinegar is not great for plastic, for the components inside the washer and the tubes. I don't know who is right or not, but I stopped using vinegar and softener in my washer.

I'm not too worried about it, to be honest. I've been using white vinegar as a softener for over a decade on the same machine with no issues.
