Vinegar is an acidic solution, but it is not strong enough to dissolve plastic. Plastic is a polymer, a large molecule made up of repeating units, that is resistant to many chemicals. If it broke down plastics of any kind, they wouldn't sell it in a big plastic bottle. Now, if you were to add more chemicals to the mix (i.e. baking soda), then yes it may. However, most plastic containers (like PE, PVC, PS) are water insoluble thermoplastic polymers, and vinegar cannot dissolve plastics under normal conditions by itself.

I keep reading places that vinegar is not great for plastic, for the components inside the washer and the tubes. I don't know who is right or not, but I stopped using vinegar and softener in my washer.

I'm not too worried about it, to be honest. I've been using white vinegar as a softener for over a decade on the same machine with no issues.
I was able to combine this 4 pack, along with the current deal on Revlonitems and the BIC3 pack of razors...slick deal indeed with free store pickup. Slickdeal indeed, thanks OP!

My cats breath smells like cat food.
If you want premium detergent at a low price get the Kirkland (costco) detergent.

softener is not good for your machine.
Just use white vinegar.
