Not really.. proper ventilation and caution is required for resin printers and laser cutting machines... cutting certain materials with a laser produces toxic fumes. smoke inhaltion from even wood cutting is not good for you - especially if you cut exotic species!

This^. I'll also add that proper eye protection is mandatory, and I wouldn't trust the cheap ones that these come with. Repeated exposure to even splashback WILL damage your eyes, even if it doesn't show up until years later. Splashback occurs when the laser reflects off of the material you're engraving. It's invisible, you usually can't feel it, and you usually won't notice until a few years later when you're eyes deteriorate (cataracts, etc). I wouldn't recommend an unshielded laser cutter in any room that children or pets are able to get access to. You can build a shielded enclosure to rectify this, but it will more than likely cost more than this engraver. Just some things to think about since most people learn pretty quickly that they need ventilation, but I know plenty of people that ran their lasers without proper eye protection because they didn't know how important it was. It's invisible, you won't feel it, and most people don't read instructions.

Looks like a great way to inhale a lot of toxic fumes.

That is a ridiculous thing to say.

I bought the larger Aufero 2 unit with 5watt laser. I got it together, but have not tried it yet.

For me, they shipped fairly quickly. They sent it from Amazon's inventory.
Very cool! Let me know how it goes

For the lay person who doesn't know this needs to have proper ventilation to use, I would agree... however, like 3D resin printing, most users know full well going in that proper caution and ventilation is required for these products.

Noob question. When would I use a short focus Lazer over a long focus?

Can you still do short cuts with a long focus? Or is there no adjustment and it's fixed?

I may buy the 1.0 above just to get the short focus laser. (which go on sale for $80 when they are in stock, but this is a complete working unit with spare parts if I needed)
Did you end up trying this?

Engraving quality is similar, acc to this expert.
Also, focal distance is fixed on both. Shorter for Short focus and longer for long focus.
Short focus supposedly has higher resolution for engraving, but not a real world difference.
For cutting, Long focus is better.

This is a really good deal for this. Pairing this with a roller or chuck for a purpose built tumbler engraving station. The 5.5w is pretty decent for removing the paint from tumblers and engraving wood and even cutting 3-5mm wood.

That's really cool. Do they make handheld lasers that you can engrave with?
