Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you can link your Movies Anywhere account to your xfinity account before you claim it. And you should be able to watch it via any connected Movies Anywhere streaming services, like Prime, Apple TV+, Vudu, etc

This is not true for me. The way it works for my account is: upon purchasing, Xfinity put -$15 credit into you account. Then at the end of billing cycle, it adds $15 + sale tax to the account. So, the cost is whatever state sale tax on the $15.

Could that have been for a different movie, I know in the past I got a credit as well, For this one I received confirmation eMail of $0.00 purchase amount.
