every professional reviewer has this on the recommended buy list. this is hard, if not impossible to beat at this price. just note the lower warranty length of 1 year versus 3 for a new unit.

you won't find anything else with dirac and full pre-outs at anywhere near this price.

There's never going to be an official company source that admits, "yeah, they're the same inside." Google "onkyo rz50 vs pioneer lx505" and read through the many forum threads; most enthusiasts recognize them as using the same platform.

I saw a comparison photo showing both the insides and the layout is the same (can't find it again). Whether there are component quality differences or whatever, I don't know if anybody has compared to that level of detail.

The back panels are the same. https://imgur.com/a/pqg9CIL The internal layout is the same. The menu system is the same except for the logo. There are slight feature differences that you can learn about if you want to read through all those forum threads.

Did they fix their HDMI issues? I have had two previous Onkyos that F'ed me over, the 818 and 626. I don't want to get burned again.
Same here but up that number to 5 (including the one I talked my mother into buying). I still have 2 that are running strong after being replaced but I don't think I can ever bring myself to trust Onkyo again, even under new ownership. I had to pay to ship the first two back and they charged me for the first repair while they were still denying they had any issues. I contacted them multiple times trying to get a refund but they never responded beyond "we will escalate and get back to you".

Yes, I also had an onkyo receiver with this issue and the shipping cost would have been almost as much as I paid for the thing so I didn't bother. The unfortunate thing is that for this price range, nothing beats what onkyo can offer which made me take a chance again.

Has it been fully confirmed that open box has fully warranty?

Imo, unless S&S can confirm that warranty applies to OB products, its safer to get this to get a guaranteed 1 year of warranty and use you credit card to get another years worth (if applicable).
Yes, a user called and reported in that thread. But even if it wasn't, if you check out with Amazon pay, Amazon has your back if the item is not as described and in the description it clearly says three yr warranty. (Also of note S&S is an approved dealer)

Probably worth it to pay a little more for a Crutchfield open box so you have the full warranty.

Do you pay for shipping: Yes (I don't think there is a big brand receiver company that doesn't do that at the moment 😿), if you have a local approved repair place that will make it much easier, but if you're trying to ship it back because something broke, you have to pay the shipping.

Monoprice (for individual amps or their 4k receiver) does pay for return shipping if there is a problem during the warranty timeline but they are a rarity. If someone knows of another receiver company that doesn't make the end user pay for shipping to the repair depot when repairs are needed please update this.

You can read their official return policy at: https://onkyousa.com/returns (basically unless the item page says differently , can return at your dime for 90days before you take a 15% hit if they accept it, people also withhold original shipping charges. My guess would be that would include the price they paid when they gave you free shipping.)

Hmm, should I upgrade my Denon 3800h?
This one says 250w with 2 channels. How much per channel with 7 channels driven, 75w?

Unless you are listening to multi-channel stereo where each speaker is outputting the exact same information you won't really ever hit the max with seven channels driven. Generally speaking, compare two channel versus two channel (note that this one is 120 WPC with the "normal" 8ohm speaker load with 2 channels being driven in stereo mode, your 3800h is rated at 105 in the same measurement.)

If I had a 3800 h and was happy with the volumes it supplied I'd wait for the rz70 to come down in price to this level in a year or two, This is not a huge improvement as your denon does pretty much everything this one does except for a different room correction (and has 4 subs out So you don't need a y adapter if you have more than two.) Again, if you're happy with the performance of yours, keep it and wait.

The big selling point of this is the Dirac room correction
My personal experience says Dirac is better than Audyssey...YMMV

It's a reasonable question given that they are already selling refurbs.

Never again, Onkyo.

x3800h is only a few months old and would be regarded as newer and slightly better. The only advantage of the Onkyo RZ50 is that it includes Dirac correction out of the box. Dirac can be added to the Denon by buying a license from the dirac site for $259/349. The Denon can also do independent subwoofer out vs the single sub out on the Onkyo.

Overall, most would say not to go from 3800 to the RZ50.

I would go with the open box! I've ordered two open box receivers from Safe and Sound and they were perfect!
I concur. Excellent service. My items were 100 percent factory new.
