I bet you are fun at parties. If you don't have anything nice or constructive to provide, please don't leave a comment. These knives are perfectly fine for everyday use for most people.
Not the best but far from crap. The quality/price ratio is hard to beat. 99% of people do not need to spend several hundred dollars on a benchmade simply to open amazon packages. I personally would rather have 10 sub $20 knives scattered about the house than one really good knife that I would be afraid to break/lose and therefore rarely use.

Gerber has really declined since it moved much (most?) of its production to China.

This ain't your daddy's Gerber. I still like the paraframe I got, but the multitool that it was in a combo with was hot garbage, as every Gerber multitool I've looked at since was as well.

If gerbers are not good for knives, are they still good for making multi-tool devices?

I don't get the hate for these little paraframe knives. I've had a number of them for many years now (keep losing them to TSA), and they are great little knives. Of course they aren't going to compete with a more expensive knife, but that's not what they're intended to do. For a small little thing that is practically unnoticeable clipped to your pocket, they are great. I'm surprised how expensive they've gotten (I think I bought a bunch for around this price $7-$8 without a sale), but I wouldn't hesitate to grab a few more to have as throw away knives.
Are you me? Lol. 100% agree with that and can relate to a couple lost by TSA. Used to be $7 on eBay every day, but shipping/fees for sellers have gone up since the good days. I've probably gone through 15 of these, none have had any issues, I just lose or give them away. For EDC I split between this and the Gerber EAB with the utility blade, depending on what I'm doing that day.

Tend to agree. I think the OG Gerber multitool was their peek. Their newer ones are almost painful to hold for any length of time. I've kept a Leatherman Wave+ in my work bag for years and use it every day. It still looks new. I'd replace that thing in a second if I lost it.
Which do you consider the OG? I've still got a Pro Scout from 15 years ago that still works well.

I got the little gerber baby knife and it's actually very solid. Can't find it now but it was cool for the time i kept up with it.

I have owned several Paraframes I picked up on sale at Walmart. They are fine as light-duty letter openers but as general-purpose EDC or toolbox knives, they are bottom of the barrel in terms of steel and construction. Put the money toward an Eafengrow or Sanrenmu if you need a small, inexpensive knife.
Knife newbie here. Why those brands over this one? What makes them worth purchasing?

I have an older Gerber multi tool that's 15 years now. I used and abused it but did not fail. My son took a liking on it and is now his. Not sure if the quality has eroded on newer models. I think this knife is good for casual beater like having a fancier looking box opener.

I've bought four (I still don't know why) Gerber knives in recent years, this one included, and I would not recommend them to anyone. They are all just too stiff to open/close that the extra force needed is more of a danger, especially to a casual user. The paraframe in particular has an uncomfortably tight lock release.

Kershaw, CRKT are my two favorite entry level companies. I haven't graduated to the micro tech/spyderco/zero tolerance etc level. If you're really on a budget ganzo and sanremu from aliexpress

Spyderco was my choice for my daily carry, lost too many to TSA...or someone's couch.
Now I carry whatever's on sale Smilie

I like Kershaw but on the cheapies, I always have an issue with the pocket clip screw threads getting hogged out and the clip becomes useless. CRKT seems to have that issue less often. Again talking about the <$20 ones here.
