I never understood why these things were so expensive for what they were
TI has a monopoly. Such a bad deal for consumers I wish the govt did something about it. I mean the technology that goes into these things is archaic. A cell phone from 10 years ago probably has more tech in it than these things.

Also just keep an eye out at garage sales these things routinely go for $10 when there's no more kids on the house. Past high school no one uses them anymore.
I still use my TI-89 daily that I got 20 years ago.

Same. My TI 83 from the late 90s is still going strong. I actually still use it pretty regularly, though just as a basic calculator.

They lobby schools so that the TI calculator is the only calculator that is approved for tests and recommended by schools. I wish there was competition for this. My son lost his in class so it is a pain having to buy one of these twice.

Absolutely. Casios are used commonly outside the US. They are more affordable and faster. Too bad TI is the commonly accepted calculator.

Got one, my daughter started high school this year so I've kept this on deal alert. Should last her thru graduation and maybe some college.

Not equipped with Python. I wonder why all the sudden Python editions are hard to find.

If you are using it every once in a while then that's fine but if you need it anywhere near regular use them you want the actual device. Using a screen as a calculator for an engineering student would be cruel and unusual punishment.
Might run into problems using a phone in exam environments too
