The primary drawbacks in reality are that the PSU may run less efficiently and generate somewhat more heat. However, in a situation where you'd want a relatively low-capacity UPS like this, it's probably to have time to save your work and shut down or you expect the power will come back in <5min, in which case the efficiency loss is likely to make a big difference.
In other words: I'd be more worried about a power surge or sudden loss of power causing damage to your computer than I would be about a simulated sine wave.
That said: this does not extend to all devices! If you're thinking of putting HiFi audio equipment, machinery, medical devices, or, like, a PDP-11 behind a simulated sine wave UPS: don't.

Did yours have a yellow sticker covering the battery backup outlets? Also, did you have to connect the battery?
The dumb thing is the checklist on the side only contains the UPS S/N and not the battery S/N. I want proof of the battery working more than the UPS working.
OD told me to chuck it in the trash and there's a new one inbound, presumably because they're not worth the price to return and disposing of batteries properly is a PITA.
I also received the $20 offer via email -- two emails, waiting for the actual $20 gift card though. First have to enter info, then have to verify info, then still waiting for actual card. Geez.

The refurbish checklist was the final straw. The box was totally torn up and obviously retaped. The pieces inside seemed and appeared out of place. They took a return to be picked up by a third party carrier, who showed up and refused to accept it. I took it to the store and they were bewildered how they could process the return. Dwindling company that has apparently jumped the shark straight into a pile of dogshit. Thanks again SD mods, hope the check was worth this scam.
