Stool Softener concentrates water in the lower GI and helps lubricate your stool. It can become a 'laxative' effect if too much is taken.

For those prescribed pain medication short-term, or those taking Kratom short-term for pain, etc. these work very well to 'ease things through' without nasty side-effects.

These aren't really for 'immediate relief' and take a day or so to work.
If you want immediate relief from constipation, you'll be looking for a laxative. (I find a tablespoon of Xylitol in brewed coffee on an empty stomach works w/ only the mildest of discomfort.)

To each their own, and especially w/ OTC drugs and supplements: research things yourself!

Ive had pretty bad constipation only in the past year I decided to finally do something about it. I tried magnesium oxide/glycenate, stool softeners, psyllium husk, exlax, etc. All with inconsistent results, varying from 2-5 days. Very frustrating. So I decided to switch to miralax/ clearlax. Now I go every other day or 2 day. I take 17 grams with warm water every morning. It's a bit pricey around $15 for about a month and a half of servings but I'll take that.

I've been taking these for years and they're cheaper at Costco and Sams but way larger quantity.

You can find this for cheaper in bulk size. Search for a bottle of 1000.

Just going to say YMMV. I took these 1-2 pills for about 3 months and had little to no effect.

Found by accident that a magnesium supplement taken daily really helps to keep things soft and moving through the body. Other health benefits too.

Magnesium is a common laxative. For instance milk of magnesia
