Detest these things. Washed out colors, bad viewing angles and diminished brightness. Stay away.

And I'm going to eat crow now. Their AI feature is something different. Privacy Guard does appear to be a physical aspect of the screen. Mmm... Yummy crow.

How does this Thinkpad compare with the recent deals on the Thinkbook approx. $600 with similar specs (besides the display is brighter on this one)?

I assume it's a positive spin on crappy view angles.

Why is the WWAN 4G or 5G option no longer available on any of the X13 models?

Privacy Guard is an AI feature that uses the camera and other sensors to detect your presence and where you are looking. It's able to blank the screen when you look or move away, among other features. It doesn't affect the quality of the screen in any way, but it's not something I've found worth keeping enabled.

I have the T14S version of this. Same CPU / GPU combo. It's not a bad gaming laptop as well. I can run Diablo 4 on it at near 30 fps on medium settings

Great laptop. I tried both the X13 and the T14s before ultimately choosing the T14s solely because I was able to get a custom build with 400nit screen and 32gb ram for the same price. But the 300nit screen isn't bad as it tests as high as 330ish nits. I could barely tell the diff in the sun between both. I think the X13 with it's 16:10 ratio and killer Ryzen 7 performance is borderline laptop of the year.

Lenovo needs to get with the times and start offering thin bezels. It's 2023. Not 1993.
