That answer is only partially true. The real answer is it depends on your system. There are modern systems that can self adjust the air flow rate to accommodate higher merv filters. However, if you're unsure what system you have, the safest bet is to go with a lower merv.

Hopefully these don't collapse. I once bought a batch at Home Depot, and it was horrible, several of them folded leaving open gaps.

Never. The higher the merv rating also the harder it makes your system works. You just buy the cheaper merv rating 2-3 and replace money without ruining your system

Mine needs 16x25x4. I bought two from HD for each $35. Later read about merv (hd one was merv 11). Ordered 2 from Ace hardware for $10 each, it was merv 8. But for some reason they gave me merv 13 rated (out of stock or wrongly filled).

How do I know how much merv can my furnace handle?

Probably in the manual if you still have it. You can also ask a technician next time you tune up your system. If you bought your house, even if newly built, and it already came with a system, just assume it's a basic one. If you didn't purposely buy a system with that capability, just take the safe route and go with low merv.

I have to run these low merv in my furance cause the dorks didn't install enough return vents so it over heats if it doesn't get enough air flow.

Stocked until the furance goes I guess!

Thank you... got 24 of the 2 pack for 2 sizes of filter. Now how do I hide these from my wife? Getting it delivered to home... they offered me a $5 gift card on future purchases... but no thank you! Handling that many filters for pickup isn't worth my time. You deliver me at my home and you can keep your $5. I used my Discover rewards to get 5 gift cards of $20 ($18 each in rewards). Please keep in mind you can use only max of 5 gift cards per order. Used Rack u ten for online cash back of 2%.

You cannot mix and match different size filters to get the discount. It has to be of the same size. Saved more than $100 for stocking these filters but are convenience to have it handy when I need it...

What am I going to do with 24 filters that I am required to buy,? Used to be you could get a couple of filters on sale for a good price but not anymore as all stores seem to be selling in bulk now a days to be like sam's or costco and the consumer continues to get hosed

Actually, it's 48 filters since these are 2 packs. I too am not a fan of buying in bulk, but I'll make an exception for these.

There is balance to be achieved. Something with a rating this low is going to let tons of particulates through, which will eventually foul your A-Coil with dust, hurt your AC efficiency, encourage it to ice over more easily, and require it to be cleaned. Use whatever is recommended by the manufacturer, the whole idea is to not create excessive resistance to airflow, but whatever MFG's recommend, it almost certainly is much, much higher than MERV 2.

$1.62 is the price for 1 filter which is indicated in the main post it's not $1.62 for 2 filters.

Still 48 for $82 after tax is a steal. I have to change mine every 3 months I'm good for 12 years.
