Steelcase is one of the "big three" as far as high end office chairs go (Herman Miller, Steelcase, Haworth). From what I've heard, Allsteel is definitely a good brand, just not quite as touted as Steelcase. Hope that helps!

Steelcase is a better brand. One thing I'll say about most Allsteel chairs is that, based on research, either none or very few of them have a variable tilt backstop (so the only thing that keeps you from leaning back at a given angle is the spring tension).

Allsteel's chairs seem well designed, but Steelcase has a better track record in terms of durability, as well as more adjustability features. I hope this helps. If you want to research office chairs more fully, I would encourage checking out the YouTube channel BTOD, as well as the websites of the respective companies. Thanks.

My office just replaced all our chairs with that. Good stuff in that they force good posture to be comfortable. If you slouch though, it's not pleasant to sit in.

I have a Steelcase leap V2 from Crandall for 600$ and it has beena phenomenal chair and looks brand new for the most part. All of the padding has been replaced and there are only small scratches on the wheel mount thing which is only noticeable if you looked really hard. Very happy with the chair

Even after coupon, comes to around $600 for a chair made in 2007-2016. Just check out your local craigslist/facebook marketplace - most cities are flooded with these from office surplus. You can get a newer Steelcase Gesture for 500 and a Leap v2 for around 300.

Crandall Office is a great company. I already have a steelcase leap from years ago, but the upholstery was ancient and definitely worn out. They were one of the few companies that offered a complete reupholstering service for both v1 and v2 chairs, complete with a newer, thicker seat cushion that is miles better than the old stock one. The way it works is they send you the new back and seat pieces fully assembled and you just swap out the old pieces you have with theirs, and send your old seat and back piece to them in the box they sent you, and they then use the old stuff you send them after reconditioning and reupholstering it for the next person. I even had some questions about the process since my old seat and back were REALLY beat up and i wasn't sure if it was acceptable quality to be sending them to be reused, they said they'd take it no questions asked and even thanked me for giving them a heads up on it. Been considering doing it again just because the process was so smooth. These guys do good work and their customer service is pretty great. These leap chairs they sell have gotten a whole lot cheaper too, and they have a bunch of youtube videos about their entire refurbishing process and how they pack and ship em out too.

If you're 6'2"+, consider this: https://www.staples.com/gry-mattr..._24544755?
There's also an option for shorter/standard seats. Similar warranty to Steelcase; commercial grade.

Steelcase chairs are one-size-fits-all-heights.

I've had a Leap for like 10 years. So far I've been able to replace the seat post and got a new seat cushion from Crandall. I don't know that this chair will ever die

I got a Refurbed Leap v2 from Madison Furniture on ebay right when the pandemic started for $250. The seller doesn't really have a great reputation on here, but I rolled the dice, and it turned out great!

After the lockdowns once we got back to work I got my boss to buy me another one from them for the office.

I haven't had a problem with either of them, and they're incredibly comfortable for me. I've been using the cheap $100 office chairs from Staples for the last 10+ years prior to this and always had back pain after just an hour or so sitting in those chairs. Not to mention they are incredibly poor quality and last maybe a year before needing to be replaced. Haven't had any back pain since I got the Leap, even with 12+ hour days, and they're still in the same perfect working condition as when I bought them.

You can add a headrest for a leap V2 after purchase. It's a little tricky to do, but possible. You CANNOT add one after purchase for a Gesture.
