Ugh, super tempted by this. I already have a Cricut Maker 3, though. Based on what I've found online, it sounds like the main advantage of this is the ability to scan images directly on the machine. However, the sense I get is that the cuts aren't as clean or consistent as they are with the Cricut. Anyone have personal experience with this one - or, even better, this machine vs Cricut?

The more expensive model will cut PES files used with embroidery machines. I learned this when I purchased this model for my mom. I had to return it as she wanted to use it with her Baby lock embroidery machine. Ended up getting the expensive model with Disney characters.

The first email I received from them after signing up, I didn't see any coupon.

Googled coupons and found BROTHER5 - which translates to an extra $10 off. Almost as good as your $20.

Moral of this story, always skim thru comments before purchasing to see if there are any coupons to be had.

I think the target for this is right below where you're already at; in other words, anyone who is considering the Maker 3 for primarily cutting work or a lesser Cricut model would be forced by the pricing of the Brother to give it some consideration. But I can't imagine a scenario where the Brother is an upgrade from the Maker 3 unless your only consideration is project size (in fact, you lose some functionality from the Maker 3 that would require separate runs through the Brother).

Since everything I'm doing as of late has been vinyl cutting this is a tempting price, save for the fact that I have easy access to a Cricut at the local library makerspace (something I'd recommend anyone considering a purchase investigate first).

Good luck!
Jon

If you're never using the second tool or considering materials too far beyond vinyl or paper then there is a meaningful comparison, especially if you're trying to work larger projects, otherwise the Maker 3 has greater potential functionality. Brother definitely worked hard to position their product in a niche to minimize apples to apples comparisons.

Good luck!

For those that are debating between this and the Cricut, definitely go with the Brother (or Silhouette Cameo) as Cricut will force you, at some point, to purchase a new cutter if you want to continue to cut custom patterns/projects. I have (had) three of their older cutters that they decided they didn't want to support and allow to work with their software so they blocked my three cutters from being operational and I cannot cut any of my custom projects or use the Cricut cutting software. When I try, the programs states that my device is too old and I need to purchase a newer model. So in short, I don't own what I purchased. Read up on this, it is a big problem with Cricut.

I'd only want this for Stickers, any thoughts on using it for that?
