There is nothing indicating the power on hours these drives have had. Assuming these have been on 24/7 for probably at least 2 years, why would anyone buy these if you can just shuck a $200 14TB model? Penny wise, pound foolish.

Depends on your use case. These enterprise drives may be used for media by the user. They will write to it once and let it keep spinning online. In that use case these drives will last well over 5 years. So it outlived the warranty on the $200 shucked drive.

If you are buying 5+ drives that could be 2 more for redundancy and $80 still in your pocket.

I have a very stupid question. Do these old school hard drives get heavier the bigger the hard drive is?

Why did the server farms sell these drives? Because they're worn out?

Some of us just want SD restored to a better quality site.
These 3-4% discounts shouldn't be constantly posted, especially when "everyone" knows about SPD already and all their subsidiaries and shady practices.
$130/14TB is their current normal price.
$120/14TB is when a post will get more appreciation from home-server folks.
l don't think everybody knows about this. I didn't. And if they get cheaper why not post it?

So far my own experience has been exceptional. The packaging of the drive they ship you is about as good as it gets.

Do you have reference to the shady practices?

It's not really cheaper, $130/14TB is normal price ($135 was actually a temporary price increase). Plus places like goharddrive have same WD drive for $100-110.

I had "everybody" in quotes since anyone on the lookout for drives on SD has surely become familiar from the many SPD posts. And home server folks are familiar with all the refurb places generally.
I've purchased from SPD before, no complaints about packaging, it's great.

As far as shady practices (marketing/spam specifically), that's less common knowledge but picked up from haunting the homelab/datahoarder-type subreddits. All evidence points that Server Part Deals is also Tech on Tech, Water Panther, Server Tech Solutions, and perhaps other e-commerce stores (same physical location/address/phone). Water Panther is banned some places for egregious spam and deception (relabeling used drives as new).
It's fine to do business with these refurb places generally, but novices should be warned that the drives need thorough testing.

My main point was that the price has been pretty much holding steady. It was good of you to share the existence of SPD with the broader SD community, but now let's wait for SPD to have a real sale.

I had an issue with one of their hard drives and they never returned my email or followed up when I filled out their form for issues. Buyer beware !

what am i missing here?

Isn't the NEW 14 TB DC HC530 at $121 a better deal than than $130 for the Recertified version?

https://serverpartdeals.com/produ...hard-drive

Also, it shows 3 year warranty but on WD directly, it shows this drive as a 5 year warranty?

Would this be suitable in my home PC for storage, photos etc pls? Also, is this around about the best current deal for 14tb? I did read the post earlier, it seems this is a decent price point for this amount of TB.

Yes will work like any other hard drive, other than the ones that require the extra power adapter if your on an older system.
