Save yourself some more money by installing an inline water filter which is a filter put in between the refrigerator and the water outlet for the refrigerator. This filter removes the need for a filter inside your refrigerator.
To do this:
1. Call the manufacturer of your refrigerator and ask them to send you a "bypass filter". Many manufacturers will send this free of charge. GE certainly is free as I did this with them a couple of months ago
2. Purchase an "inline water filter". Example the 5 year ecopure filter is $30 on amz. You can also buy these from big box stores.
3. Watch a you tube video on installing the filter. It's basically turn off the water supply for the refrigerator, cut the water line with a sharp knife, and push in the water line into either end of the in line filter (purge the filter before connecting the second line). I did this on Sunday and it took me 10 mins start to finish.
I hope this saves you all some money for the next 5 years!

I know this is subjective - can anyone comment on taste? Does it make water chemically or anything like that?

No, it shouldn't have any real taste. Just make sure you follow the install instructions to run through a few gallons of water before consuming it.

Bought some of EBay last time this came up. It was a 4pk for $50. They were fake so lesson learned. Seller gave me my money back immediately when I accused them of selling counterfeit goods.

Thanks for this! I'm gonna try this on my new samsung refrigerator. I was doing research about the bypass filter and read that a lot of the newer refrigerators have the bypass feature built in when no filter is installed inside.

I bought some on Amazon of a different brand (generic) and they've done fine. Anybody have experience with both and think this price is worth it somehow?
