uhhh no. It's called 3D because it uses a vertically integrated L3 cache. So it's stacked, hence 3D vs a single-layer structure.
I've been tracking this for weeks. The prices I have recorded in my wishlist comment in that time: $324, $321, $299, $309, $319. I certainly haven't seen it anywhere close to $449, and I haven't noticed it be out of stock that much, or even at all. - but it's possible I haven't been watching stock that closely.

It is, of course, a great am4 processor, which is why I was watching it.
7800X3D arrives on April 6 for $449, so maybe up, down, or sideways Confused

Buy it, get a b550, and a be quiet! cooler and you've got a good start.

For what it's worth, these are the best value in CPUs and perform very well. These are usually sold out.
Think of them as the 1080 for AMD where they priced it low for what you get and it even spoils a lot of the higher chips.

I am sticking with DDR and by B450 mobo with 2070 Super for now and really do not want to upgrade my rig for maybe 16 months.

So you think this CPU will be HUGE upgrade over my Ryzen 5 3600 for now and also continue using this CPU even with I upgrade everything?

Yeah, I snagged one a couple weeks ago for $319. Big upgrade from my 3800X. I'm guessing it stays in the lower 300's before being discontinued eventually.

I replaced my 5900x with this 5800 X3D. I primarily game on my desktop so it makes sense. I sold the 5900x and basically paid for this chip outright. Nice upgrade overall and the best way to extend the life of your AM4 gaming rig.

For a budget conscious gamer, this chip is an EXCELLENT value.

For reference..I get the same fps with this (maybe a few more ) in Warzone than my 12900k did or my current 7700x. Also rock solid with no issues.

Well, this is considered the pinnacle of AM4 socket gaming processors. If you're gonna stay with the DDR4 memory and the same motherboard, this would be the best CPU you could still use.

I don't know personally about the performance difference between the 3600 and the 5800x3D, but zgradt mentioned in this thread that he upgraded his 3800x and was happy with the result.

You might not get a HUGE FPS boost in games right now, using the 5800x3D with a 2070 super. When the time comes and you upgrade your video card, then it will shine. All the FPS tests that show it performing well are inevitably using a really nice GPU that costs more than my first car. Here's a comparison that also uses a 6600xt for their testing. [techspot.com]

I upgrade like you seem to: every few years, I alternate buying a new CPU or GPU. I was thinking about getting a 5800x3D soon to replace my 1700x. It won't give me a big boost now with my 1660ti video card, but in a year or so when I upgrade my video card, it would make for a really solid 1080p, 144hz gaming rig. I don't think the CPU is going to drop much more though, so I was thinking I might go with the 5600x or 5700x instead.

I've been tracking it too, you're on the money, I have yet to see anything under $300 but was hoping for the 7800x3d to push prices down, no such luck yet...

I'm after the 5800x3d because on paper the 96MB of L3 Cache looks awesome compared to 5900x 64MB, but I've read plenty of anecdotal reports saying that the 5900x will fair better in most games than the 5800x3d. That extra L3 is supposed to help with VR games, hence the 3D in the name. The OCD in me also likes my cores in powers of two, so if I don't get an 8-core / 16 thread 5800x3d I'll probably try to get a 16-core / 32 thread 5950x. Yes it's irrational, yes it's overkill, don't care.
I guess the only question is are we going to see any drop in pricing on these soon.

Id pounce on the first one with a 10% discount lol.
