This got some negative reviews shortly after release because the drive health went down rapidly, however a firmware release seems to have solved this

I've been using this ssd since release and it's been great. Super fast. I paid retail but I got 30% cash back through capital one.

It's $180 on Samsung's site too:

Just placed an order and it worked. I would back out and try again.

I'm not certain I trust Samsung. Did the firmware update actually 'fix' the problem or simply fix the reporting? Nobody knows.

The problem existed for quite some time before being discovered and fixed. I think it might be best to stick with the WD 850X or FireCuda 530.

Realistically, Gen 3/4/5 are imperceptible to each other, the biggest gains are from mechanical HDD to SATA SSD and a minor (but real) gain from SATA SSD to NVME. Only benchmarks can tell the difference between NVME drives (except if you constantly do gigantic file transfers were cache becomes a factor).

I have a 1TB 970 Pro right now, but not certain I'd trust Samsung again.

I got the same. I have an educational account and it seems the type of account is applied before the promo code, negating the promo code entirely (cannot double discount). I'm trying to work around it as I also have $45 in rewards on Samsung that I'd like to use as well for an even slicker deal.

For those who cannot get the samsung.com code to work, open an incognito window, then proceed to checkout as guest. It works source: ordered one earlier today

Just had a 970 evo plus fail on me with only 16tbw on it. So far the warranty process has been pretty easy. Called them, they issued an rma and sent me an email to answer some questions. Next day I received a shipping label and shipped it off. Hopefully I'll receive a new ssd in the next few days.
