This got some negative reviews shortly after release because the drive health went down rapidly, however a firmware release seems to have solved this

I've been using this ssd since release and it's been great. Super fast. I paid retail but I got 30% cash back through capital one.

It's $180 on Samsung's site too:

I'm not certain I trust Samsung. Did the firmware update actually 'fix' the problem or simply fix the reporting? Nobody knows.

The problem existed for quite some time before being discovered and fixed. I think it might be best to stick with the WD 850X or FireCuda 530.

Realistically, Gen 3/4/5 are imperceptible to each other, the biggest gains are from mechanical HDD to SATA SSD and a minor (but real) gain from SATA SSD to NVME. Only benchmarks can tell the difference between NVME drives (except if you constantly do gigantic file transfers were cache becomes a factor).

I have a 1TB 970 Pro right now, but not certain I'd trust Samsung again.
