Not sure I would ever buy a refurbished laptop unless crazy cheap. The reason I am in the market for a new laptop is b/c the hinges always break on cheap laptops. Acer 3 is their budget line just like Inspiron is Dell's budget line. If you open and close your laptop a lot you either have to baby it or plan to replace every 3 years. My last cheap HP has a broken hinge and so does my current Inspiron 5000 laptop. My older XPS Dell laptop still has working hinges, but it is outdated now and was an expensive XPS model. That being said it is cheaper to buy a new cheap laptop every 3 years than buy a new XPS every 6 years.

What do you recommend or what are you looking at at this moment? I ended up getting that acer today and it had some screen flickering issues so now I have to return it and I'm back on the market lol. This one seems good but ugh I don't know. Looking for the best deal in terms of processor ram ssd for between 400-500.

Yeah- that is the risk with anything refurb ,especially with a laptop that potentially was abused by prior owner. I bought a refurb Acer desktop for my mom for like $200 that was good, but didn't have the same fears about desktop vs laptop. I am considering this Dell, but am worried about the heat and fan issue complaints. I had to throttle down the processor on my current Dell Inspiron 5000 10th Gen to avoid overheating and the super loud fan noise. Any laptop for $500 is going to have major tradeoffs. Either trashy specs or trashy build quality. This dell has good specs for general use, but trashy build quality. Going to wait for a deal to show up as I have a binder clip holding my current Dell together where the hinge is broken.

I finally settled on this, but brand new. I love the deals on refurbs, but for a laptop, I agree with the other comment... unless it's a crazy deal, you never know what the previous owner did. It's not like a paperclip that does paperclip things, laptops are intricate things.

But the 16GB and budget deals are hard to find, got mine on amz as I had credits to buy it. Some of the other ones were interesting but didn't have all the features of that one, which uses a 12th gen cpu. A lot of the LG/Lenovo's I found were older gen cpus. For battery life, from what I've read you want a 12th gen. Won't be here until tomorrow, so can't judge the swift 3 yet, oh and there's a ton of variants of the "swift 3" so keep that in mind.

The Dell here is nothing really special. Just another 8GB laptop. It'll fit the needs of many though.

2 slots, not soldered

Confirmed with Kingston, though supposed max is 16GB so throw another stick of 8GB DDR4 and you're good to go.

I really wish the screen was 300 nits. I can't believe they use such a cheap screen. This will meet most needs for people who just want a computer surf the web and do basic things.

This wouldn't fall under the category of gaming laptop, however, Ryzen APUs tend to beat out Intel when it comes to integrated graphics, so this would run older games from the ps3/360 Era along with some slightly more modern games like CS:GO, Fortnite, and minecraft. It would also be good for a lot of retro gaming at least up to ps1 Era. If you are looking for a laptop that can handle light gaming, this would be ok. If you just want to game on the go, you can get a
64gb Steam Deck for the same price and get better gaming performance along with a full Linux desktop for web and productivity apps.

These laptops look to be the same body as the Inspiron 3511, which I ordered over 100 for my work. A lot of them have hinges that have busted because there's too much tension on the hinge joint and there are just tiny screws in the monitor holding it in. So be prepared to have some broken hinges with this one. At least Dell covered them while under warranty though.

If it has 2 slots the chipset and processor should be able to support more than 16 GB total? Unless it's being artificially restricted by Dell.
That would be a really anti consumer move.

Memory Stock says max 64GB. But Dell website says 16GB max.

Someone posted in Dell community that they got 64GB in no problem. So max 64GB.
