I also bought a new one from sams end of last summer. Worked a couple weeks, went in and out multiple times before finally dying completely, then was returned. Can not recommend.

Picked up a 8k unit and 12k unit last year to "help" my aging central air. Plus i liked the idea of being able to control the temps in the rooms separately. My central ac actually hasn't turned on since installing them. I put the 12k in the living room, which points down the main hallway. Kept my house cool all summer in Florida.

We installed one on the bedroom window, which is right next to our heads. At full blast, it is about as loud as a normal oscillating fan. On low, I have to put my hand in front of the vent to know if it's on or not.

Higher but is not always better, it needs to be sized to the room, higher but might cool a smaller area too quickly and shut off before it's able to lower the humidity in the room by running longer

I got one new (same model) from the sam's club deal last year. Used it for a couple of months in a semi temporary config in the bedroom window. Loved it. Sipped wattage... Woke me up to the value of inverter technology.

Pros: price, ease of install, efficiency, wall unit has no concern of negative room pressure...
Cons: if you do a garbage job at installing, it could leaked inside, smell if too much water sits in the outside part's pans, kinda weird noises due to pressurized components.

I've had the 12,000 BTU version for quite a while now (couple of years now during a sale at Sam's) and it's been great. Highly recommend this (or higher BTU) if the price is right and you need a window unit.

Can't believe how quiet it is compared to my previous one that was half the BTU. But I also will agree with the first post about the proper install. Definitely read horror stories in some reviews about that.

repped, i picked one up. thanks. I have the Costco Danby version of one of these already. I like it, it's super quiet but the install process isn't my favorite. Just to many moving pieces with the support brackets and foam fillers, etc.

Picked up 2 of the 12000btu units couple of years ago for $279 each love them but keep in mind the fan blades will require cleaning and they are a bit of a pita to clean other than that super quiet and work well

Damn - I need the non-U version. Bought the 12,000 version last year and it's been great.

Mine lasted all summer. And last week when I went to turn it on. No cold air. Not sure if you could return to Sams club but Midea but gave me my money back instead of replacing under warranty
