The M2s are about 12-15 percent faster core-to-core. It's the equivalent of going from a N generation Intel to an N+2 Intel generation (like a 9th to an 11th). It's not a massive increase in performance, but it's noticeable.

You're paying 25 percent more for a 12-15 percent increase in performance, for a better screen, getting one port back because of the MagSafe, and updated design. Whether that's worth it for you, only you can assess.

You can actually buy this on Costco.com as a non member at the same price, many things are available on their website without a membership. I buy a lot of baby diapers and wipes online with no membership and free shipping. This laptop is also available without a membership and no extra non member fees.

Not a bad price point for M2, though I've seen several reviews that suggest the M2 value-increment over M1 is not worth the higher M2 price-tag. Opinion - this $999 M2 or a $799 (or lower) M1?

Buyer beware of this base 256GB model:

"While the M1 MacBook Pro and M1 MacBook Air have two NAND chips of 128GB each in its 256GB version, the M2 MacBook Pro – and now M2 MacBook Air – has a single 256GB NAND chip. In the first case, the M1 Macs can achieve faster speeds in parallel, while the latter fails to reach the same SSD speeds since it has only a single SSD."

Plenty of discussion on this topic out there from other resources as well.

I believe you can pay using Discover on Costco.com. This laptop is available online so it works out.

Apple doesn't make all the specs readily available to consumers. The 2022 model is still using BT 5.0? And wifi 6, not 6e?

It looks like Amazon has price matched the M2, at least for the midnight color I was looking at. And yes I've read the reviews that the midnight color picks up fingerprints pretty badly.

Since not everyone is a Costco member, buying from Amazon you would lose the one year extended warranty, but if you have Chase freedom and activated starting today for the next 3 months it is 5% cash back from Amazon and Lowe's.

Is it worth the extra $300 to get 512 GB instead for future proofing?

Thanks, vnangia, repped for helpful feedback. In Mac world, my #1 value4$ additional spend is RAM, but Apple *always* has horrible value4$ for RAM step-up. (Well, at least they price me out of that upgrade.) Considering giving this as a gift, so the +$200 or more is pretty iffy.

It's more worth it because 512 GB is supposed to be faster than 256 GB. However, depends on your use cases. I just bought a 256 GB for someone that's just going to do basic things on this thing and won't notice a difference in speed.

Your choice on experience. If you want to just use just the laptop. Then maybe, 512 isn't even enough. I personally go the dongle route and have a drive to put photos on and backups. But each person is different on how they want to use their laptops.
